We've been going to Oceano ever since it opened. With Covid, sushi hasn't been available, so when it finally was, we were amped to be able to enjoy it again. We were totally disappointed. We sat at the all-you-can-eat bar that appeared to be bused, but notice there were still soy sauce spots on it. We moved over to the next partition & waited, & waited to be noticed. Meanwhile, the host was busy talking to another customer, only a few feet from us & he didn't acknowledge us at all. It was a long, drawn-out process to get menus, napkins, drinks & even our first order, although the place was relatively empty. I always start with Kani & Unagi. The Kani was waterlogged & tasted like stale water. The Unagi was mushy & unappetizing. The rolls we ordered took FOREVER to be served, even though they sat & sat on the counter waiting for a wait staff to serve them to us. They weren't that great. Even the ginger is HORRIBLE! I've never eaten in a sushi bar where the ginger had a "off" taste. Oceano has lost its mojo. Sushi's expensive & I don't want to pay for substandard service & food. We won't be going back, especially since this meal was something we'd anticipated for MONTHS. I called the manager of the restaurant 12 days later to relate our experience & she just listened & didn't offer a comp or anything. She said I'd called too late after the fact.

Staff including manager had no clue what gluten was. All other restaurants had gf bread and buns. Not this one. Many dishes are naturally gf though and chef seemed knowledgeable
They have tamari - such fresh sushi for Reno!
I ate sushi here once and had no problems. I'm a very sensitive celiac. I recommend going at a time when they're not super busy, and order a la carte rather than the all-you-can-eat menu. I spoke to the sushi chef personally, and ordered only sashimi and nigiri. I got the charred tuna - they use a blowtorch rather than a grill so no cross-contamination there. They will bring out tamari on request.
