We'd called previously and been told they took care to prevent cross contamination. This time my pizza showed up with charred bits on the bottom, we called back and were told there was no cross contamination prevention and the pizza wasn't recommended for Celiacs. Wish I'd noticed before I ate it.
Great tasting gf crust and option to build any kind of pizza you want.
Was hesitant to eat here because the menu says they don’t guarantee cross contact, but the staff I spoke with reassured me they do everything they can to make it safe. Since gluten is in the kitchen, they just can’t guarantee it. It’s a small restaurant, but the staff member showed me that the crust comes packaged. They keep it on paper in the oven and through the whole line so it doesn’t touch the surfaces. It’s a chain so just assess when you get there!
So sad as I’ve been to other Otto’s in Boston and in ME. The server and front of house staff specified that the crust is not cooked on a separate surface, and they will not place a pan or tin foil under the crust while cooking to preserve ‘texture’. I pressed hard as I was so looking forward to this, but the staff was very adamant it was NOT celiac safe. disappointed!!
I placed an online order for a GF Ceaser salad no croutons and indicated allergy several times on the order. I had saved the salad for the next day to eat for lunch and found croutons in it a few bites into my salad. I called the location to speak with the manager and he said that he knew about the order and had the staff pluck out the croutons and served it without remaking a new one. Ive never been so shocked to hear a manager knowingly served contaminated food.
