We have stopped here a couple times now on our way home from the Chicago area (where family lives). This is a fabulous Outback location, and the GF menu is great. They are very informed and understand that Celiac is serious. They even ask if it is ok if the other guests at my table eat bread and make sure they position it far away from me. This last time we visited, they allowed me to do the Aussie 4 Course with substitutions (broccoli instead of soup and a GF dessert instead of cheesecake) for a only a $2 upcharge. I was thrilled and stuffed! Great deal and accommodation for someone who never gets “the deal” because she has Celiac. Would highly recommend this location. I have never had ill effects eating here.
The staff here all knew what Celiac is, and what I needed. There is a fair number of gluten free options, and my food tasted great. I did not get sick, and I'm usually very sensitive to cross contamination.
What an awesome experience!!! I love going someplace and telling them I have a Gluten Allergy and they are like...OK. They are well educated and friendly. They have a delicious desert - The Chocolate Thunder From Down Under!!! Gluten Free and OMG... Is come here just for that. Plenty of GF options and Lilly in Dover was the best server we have had all year!
Definitely ordered things that’s we’re supposed to be gluten free and got sick. Filet, grilled shrimp and a Ceasar with no croutons. Bread was never even brought to the table per my request. Had a rash within an hour. Very sick later. Server seemed to not really care about me needing no gluten, doubt she told the kitchen.
Sadly I have to change my review. Not safe to eat here anymore. Found croutons buried inside my salad the last few times I ate here. Old review: Have stopped to eat here for many years. Very dependable. Food is your usual chain fare, unimpressive but still tasty. Make sure to ask for an experienced server.
Felt weird after I ate my meal even after telling the server specific instructions on my food since I have a gluten and soy allergy. Got a salad to go explaining the same thing. Got home to find my salad covered in croutons and got a stomach ache again from eating my leftovers from dinner so I know he didn’t specify my allergy. Have eaten at other locations without problems. Just be careful at this location.
My celiac daughter ate there twice and was sick both times. Waiter seem unconcerned and dismissive about celiac and GF. The first time brought the salad with croutons, came back with the salad without croutons and she felt sick immediately. The same happened the second visit, no croutons on the salad but sick within minutes of eating the salad. This is particular to this Terre Haute location. They must not follow procedures to avoid cc. We have had consistent no issues back in Plano TX.
UPDATE: NOT celiac friendly. This was one of a few places in the LV I would eat but they are disorganized. They do not have fries on the GF menu but said the fryer is dedicated GF. A manager confirmed...so I had been ordering them and wondered what was making me sick. Suddenly they told me they were NOT gluten free and bad things were happening in the kitchen so they were transitioning to a new kitchen manager... fast-forward and I decided to give it another try 1+ months later. They gave me a salad that had cheese picked off with residual cheese and a few small pieces left (I also can't eat dairy), but it was obvious they weren't following proper procedures for gf with fresh ingredients, changing gloves, etc. I did make a big deal about having celiac. AFTER that I alerted the manager and said my entree NEEDS to be made carefully and properly. When it was delivered the broccoli had butter all over it. The manager then made my broccoli again herself. After all this they didn't comp ANYTHING from the bill. They made me sick, I paid them $80. They are too sloppy in the kitchen, not checking themselves, getting people sick. Stay away if you have celiac and other allergies/intolerances!!
My 4 yo is newly diagnosed Celiac and this was our first restaurant experience since diagnosis. I was extremely nervous but the manager was amazing! He came and spoke directly to us and went to make sure he told his entire cook staff and our waitress the situation. The cook has already developed a plan and cooked her entire meal in a separate location to ensure no cross contamination could occur. They checked on us regularly and the manager came back out to ensure everything went well before we left! We will always visit here when we are back home! They were very knowledgeable and friendly and made sure to cater to any request or need we had!
They ARE NOT serious with their Gluten free. We had ordered salads and they gave us croutons. I was anxious about eatting the rest of the food because if they messed up with some thing as simple as salads what else did they mess up on.
Been here so many times never have had an issue (knock on wood). They have a gf menu just have to ask for it. The staff and mgr are extremely knowledgeable and aware of the dangers for patrons with celiac and gluten sensitivity. I have had their steaks, salads, seafood and veggies. I cannot eat pork or chicken so I haven't tried them.
I ate safely here while visiting family. Although lately I noticed all Outback heavily using a salty seasoning which i don’t like - it’s overkill sometimes! I had Alice Springs Chicken (love it!) - was too full for dessert (unfortunately!). But it’s still a very safe place to eat!
Our daughter was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and we were terrified of eating out for the first time. My brother previously worked at another outback and said it was a great place and they were great!!! Needless to say we were beyond shocked, the chef came out himself and talked to us about what she could have and what he recommended! Such a relief, the server was amazing to she admitted she wasn’t the greatest at allergies but wanted to ensure the kitchen knew
The food was pretty tasty and the staff seemed knowledgable but still got likely CC'd by something here. Had the alice chickea with mash potatoes. Not as bad as normal, but still had symptoms after eatting. Sad because we waited a extra long time for food too.
Excellent experience. I mentioned having celiac and the waitress immediately knew everything I would need. I was able to have the Alice springs chicken, mashed potatoes, and... the chocolate thunder from down under. It felt like the old days before a diagnosis- finally felt free to eat. Be sure to check out outbacks website for their specific GF menu. Makes it a lot easier to order.
Very disappointed. Usually an outback is my go-to place when travelling. I always use a NIMA to test my food and the steak failed, the steak! I was able to eat the salad, but not the least, why?!! The manager had to come by as always, and wasn't surprised or apologetic either. Just like an "oh well". I would not recommend this place mainly for the manager's attitude and the fact that the steak failed. Salads I understand, but not the grill.
While I did not get sick the restaurant was disorganized and not very clean, with lots of crumbs on my seat and smushed French fries under the table. The staff seemed eager to help but not 100 percent clear on the concept of food that is safe for celiacs. A disappointment because Outback has been a reliable friend for business travel and we miss the Outback that used to be in Wheaton.
Staff was able to discuss the celiac protocol. There is a separate menu. The dessert was AMAZING- warm chocolate pecan brownie with chocolate fudge, ice cream, and whipped topping. It was 1500 calories, but it was worth every calorie!
I told the staff that I needed gluten free. The owners daughter is also gluten free, which makes what happened really surprising. I ordered a salad with no croutons. I ate about half of it before finding a crouton on the bottom.
I had a really nice experience here! I ordered the grilled chicken and my mom (also celiacs) ordered a sirloin. I’m also dairy-free so I asked for my chicken with no butter. The waitress accidentally pressed the wrong button so the manager came out to talk to me and told me they were remaking the chicken. Once I got it, it was very juicy and tasty.
