GF tomato pie is awesome! They also offer GF pastas, and the kitchen has been certified as safe. They take cross contamination seriously.
I've had gf gnocchi in vodka sauce and perogies that were wonderful. also tried the pizza. Still isn't like the real stuff but the fresh sauce and cheese definitely helped the gf crust :)
Yuck! I had a gf pasta dish and it was horrible. They put so much butter in it just to hide the fact it is flavorless. I paid over $14 for a dish I threw away.
This place is excellent. We came across it using this app and the reviews were spot on. Don't judge it by it's outside; the inside is beautiful and updated. The owner was on hand to answer any questions - his adult son has celiac so he knows how to prepare everything properly. This place is a must try if you are celiac and in the area. We had gf pizza, fresh mozz and tomato appetizer.
We stopped here on our way back home using the app to find a safe place off of the NJ Turnpike. It's less than 10 minutes off of Exit 7. It was SO worth it. The pizza was delicious. The ravioli didn't fall apart and the pasta to cheese ratio was perfect. The staff was attentive and the owner even checked on us. His son has Celiac -- his vested interest is evident in the great food and attention! P.S. The non GF food was also superb according to my husband. ;)
You can't get better than Palermo's!!! By FAR the best Gluten Free pizza I've had. I was so happy to go somewhere that I could have a pizza that wasn't just frozen and thrown on a tray. They made an AWESOME tomato pie for me!!! SO. MUCH. YES. They had an extensive menu of gluten free pastas, including raviolis and stuffed shells!!! HEAVEN!!!! The owner's son has celiac and is their official taste tester for all of their dishes. Side note - This site is way better than the Hamilton Palermo's.
100% knowledgeable in celiac, ALL allergies, and GLUTEN FREE!. Barry the manager worked on the phone with me to create a great allergy friendly GF pizza. He even called me back before making the pizza after looking at ingredient lists relative to my nut allergy! This pizza was NOT a frozen crust pizza on an aluminum pan. It was not a 12" cookie cutter pizza. It was not made from the same topping bins as the "regular" pizzas. It is a REAL large pizza 18"ish of fresh dough made in a gluten free facility. Not frozen, not contaminated. He suggested a change in pizza construction, more Chicago style than NY, cheese on the bottom, then sauce and toppings. It was amazing! The dough holds up! It is firm and perfectly cooked. The base is crispy and carries the food to your mouth not to the floor. The middle melts as you take a bite. The outer crust is not burnt and acts as a great dipping bread! As a celiac, dough is 100% the bane of all GF pizza. This one will not disappoint. The toppings are fresh and succulent. The kitchen makes the pizza with dedicated toppings, sauces, and area. You will NOT get cross contamination from this restaurant (especially with Barry in charge). You WILL get a great meal! PS there are lots of GF options other than pizza. THANKS BARRY!
Food is excellent! There are even more options on their gluten free menu at the restaurant that aren't listed on their website. Ravioli and Fra Diavlo were delicious, and we ordered a gf pizza to go which came with its own cutter to avoid cross contamination. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. (One of the owners even came out to calm a screaming baby at another table that was disturbing the restaurant.) We ended the night with a gluten free desert, which they change every week. Can't wait to return and try the other items on their menu!
BEST GLUTEN FREE FOOD EVER! Our waitress was SUPER attentive. The gluten free pizza is cooked separately from the regular pizza to prevent cross contamination. The salad with the house dressing is delicious! The menu is HUGE!!! I had the gnocchi with vodka sauce and it was DELISH! The owner or manager, Julio, came over when I asked what broccoli rabe was and if I could try it before I ordered. He brought over a delicious appetizer size with roasted peppers and gluten free bread. It was so delicious! My non gf friend had a tomato pie and loved it! Such a wonderful place and I definitely recommend it! The staff is super kind, polite and attentive!!!!!
Palermos is the best gluten free Italian food I've ever had!!! I am celiac and they take it so carefully, I never get sick!!! The tomato pie is spectacular, like nothing I've ever had, and they have about 10 pasta options including stuffed pastas!!! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with a gluten allergy and you can rest assured that they will take it completely seriously!!! Enjoy :)
Best tomato pie in nj. Been going since I was a little kid. So happy they offer their special pie on a tender, flaky and sturdy gf crust.
