Restaurant Pallas Athene

Avoid! Advertises itself online as one of the first restaurants with gluten free dishes in Amersfoort, yet when I visited they claimed not to be able to serve anything gluten free.

I made a reservation here and after sitting down it took the staff a good 20 minutes to offer me a drink, even though there was barely anyone else there. After ordering a drink and getting the menu I saw various dishes marked as gluten free. 'Great', I thought, 'I'm in good hands here'.

The waiting staff comes back (note that we still haven't received our drinks yet) and I inquire about the gluten free dishes. The waiter thinks to himself for a moment, but can't give me an answer, so he runs off to ask the kitchen staff. After returning he informs me that the dish I wanted to order 'can't be made gluten free today'. Alright, so I pick something else. Also not possible today.

At this point I became rather annoyed, so I walked up to the bar/kitchen myself and ask what the deal is with their menu, their gluten free options and their supposed ability to serve them. The kitchen staff then tries to sell me that they've recently started using a certain type of mustard (???) that contains gluten and everything has apparently been contaminated with it.

I walked back to my table, grabbed my coat and left without even waiting for drinks. What a ridiculous experience.
