Last year I dined at Piñon Grill in Boca Raton and did not have the best experience there. The waiter brought out several different types of homemade regular bread that was supposedly phenomenal according to my family. I then asked the waiter if they had gluten free rolls and she fortunately said she did, but for a slight up charge. I assumed that it would be a dollar or two, just like other restaurants do for a bun, etc. When we got the bill, they charged seven dollars for two mini rolls (equal to two slices of bread). I was very upset and felt taken advantage of. The waiter said that she wouldn’t be able to do anything about that. So I had to pay for the bread but then called the next morning to speak with a manager. I spoke with the general manager who totally agreed with me about how ridiculous it was and how the owner thinks he can take advantage of people who can not tolerate gluten. The general manager informed me that if we did decide to come back, he would take care of us. A year later, I call them back to give them another try and spoke with the same general manager. He again apologized about last year as he did remember me. He told me how he spoke to the owner about this and the owner made a change within an hour since I spoke with him. The owner owns several restaurants which offer gluten free bread for a premium, but not anymore. All of his restaurants offer free gluten free bread to any customer who asks. I’m happy to say that I am dining at Piñon Grill tonight with my family as the general manager will make sure that we have a wonderful time. Piñon Grill was very accommodating last year as they took precautions against cross contamination. It just didn’t make sense to me why the owner would charge that much for bread.
