We've been getting carryout or delivery from Pizzeoli for a couple years. When I switched to GF about a year ago, I was just so relieved to be able to have great GF pizza.
I am highly reactive to cross contamination and only once have I had a reaction. However, we still hadn't locked in our routine at home to prevent cross contamination so there is no way to know if I reacted to the pizza or to something here. But it put me off of eating there for a few months.
We recently ordered again. Reader - I cried at how good it is. No joke. I had no reaction at all other than pure joy at eating my favorite pizza. There is a risk of cross contamination of course, but I know they're taking every possible caution to prevent that.
Edited to add: my wife is from Connecticut so she knows great pizza. She actually loves the "gluten conscious crust" from Pizzeoli. She recently visited Connecticut and said the GF pizzas she tried there - the pizza belt - are not as good as Pizzeoli.
I went into the restaurant yesterday so I could ask some questions in-person. The host was new and did not know everything about the gluten related, but another worker (I assume an owner) popped by and went over all of the precautions they take. All of the wings are fried in a dedicated fryer, using GF breading. The sauce are all GF, and they come on the side when you order takeout. The GF pizza crust is a blend of cheese and cauliflower, very thin. The pizza is cooked in the same oven as the regular pies, but it gets its own metal tray. Also, since they are aware of how flour can fly around in the oven, they sweep as much flour as they can out of the oven before putting in the GF pie. Verdict: They call themselves “Gluten Conscious” because they truly understand the needs and wants of the gluten free community. The buffalo and bbq wings, as well as the GF Margherita pizza. I will definitely be going back for more.
Ate at this cute little restaurant last night. The service was great! The food was great and the gluten free options were wonderful.
I had the wings and the server verified that they are coated with potato starch and fried in their own fryer. They were delicious. I also ordered their “golf cart” pizza and it was gluten free. She told me the two ingredients that were not gluten free on their pizzas and said they would not make a pizza with them if I ordered something that it normally would come on. They also clean/scrape the oven down so while these are made in the same oven as the pizzas with gluten they only cook the gluten free pizza in the oven when making it.
It has been about 15 hours since I ate it and haven’t felt any problems from any of the food. I am very sensitive when it comes to reactions to cross contamination and have had none so feel confident they take the extra precautions. I would definitely go back.
Most original gluten free crust I've tried in STL thus far! This is not your average cracker thin gluten free crust. It's somewhere right in between thick and thin. To top things off it's also vegan! This crust paired with the cashew "ricotta" and vegan "parmesan" makes for one spectacular gluten free, vegan meal. Happy customer here and definitely will return.
