Willing to take the drive for “the southerner”
The Fried Chicken and Waffles. It comes with bacon and cheese.
It is incredible and I usually feel good after I eat it. I have never been severely ill after eating the meal.
The gluten menu is quite limited other than waffles, but I always order the same thing.
This place is great because my wife and kid who do not have the allergy love their selections even more than I do.
The staff definitely are aware of cross-contamination and are confident in their ability to deliver safe food.
Mystic, CT is a great place which makes traveling here all the more worth it.
We went there this past Saturday, and they seemed to try to accommodate my Celiac and other food sensitivities. The food was fine. Unfortunately, I was glutened.
Menu clearly marked. Dedicated fryer AND waffle iron! Loved the fried chicken and waffles! They also have gf bread, english muffins, wraps, and eggs benedicts. All coffee syrups (aside from notated house made flavors) are Proper which says all flavors gf on website.

The food was absolutely amazing! I wish I lived closer as it’s so hard to find celiac safe places! So so delish! And the staff was excellent! Very transparent and upfront!
Have eaten here twice. Both times it was a great experience. All the waffles are GF and delicious. The English muffin is also very good. They make sure to cook everything separate including putting the eggs on a pan instead of the griddle. Patiently answered my questions and explained their procedures and tasted amazing
Get here early. There was a line of folks waiting right when they opened at 8 am and now I know why. Fantastic latte and a wide variety of GF options including the Belgian waffles. I had a breakfast burrito with a GF tortilla which was excellent. And we got three GF morning glory muffins to go. Now the car smells amazing.
Pop Over Eatery is GREAT. They have lots of gluten free options and their Belgian waffles are all gluten free and absolutely delicious. The staff is very knowledgeable about what has gluten and what does not and there is a dedicated gluten free fryer for items like fried chicken and sweet potato fries. The top shelf of the bakery case is all gluten free baked goods and they are fantastic. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
This morning, I had the most amazing gluten free Southerner, which is a Belgian waffle, crispy fried chicken, cheddar, crisp bacon and habanero hot honey. All of their waffles are gluten free already and the chicken was amazing as well. All this and it was served with real maple syrup. I would highly recommend and can’t wait to return. The staff is very attentive and very helpful with questions.
What a gem! All of the waffles are gluten free, so I got the pumpkin waffle. It was fantastic! They also had an entire row of gf baked goods. I ordered the pumpkin coffee cake and a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie to go.
Fried chicken and waffles!! What an amazing treat!! It was so delicious and the place was so cute and friendly. I wish we had one close to where we lived. They also have gf baked goods.

absolutely wonderful!!! they were super busy but were really quick to seat us, had wonderful coffee options, and best of all— GF CHICKEN AND WAFFLES!!!
the waffles were amazing, light and fluffy, and the chicken was not only insanely crispy, but well seasoned too!! im from florida, and the seasonings reminded me of publix chicken, which i haven’t been able to eat in forever. definitely a must-see spot if you’re in the area, my wife and i both loved it AND had zero issues afterwards (except for full tummies!)
I ordered the Belgian waffle with fried chicken. It was delicious and totally GF.
I am the only one of 5 of us with Celiac Disease and everyone in my party, including myself, enjoyed Popover. I had the chicken and waffles which were excellent! So much food- reasonably priced, just delicious! It was such a treat to have gf waffles and chicken.

Staff were super accommodating of our group and managed all our dietary requirements well. In addition to one member of our party with celiac, we had another who needed several modifications to a brunch item and two young kids. Everyone had multiple options to choose from which is very rare for our group! The waitress answered all our questions and was so kind- everyone left happy. We will definitely return!

Excellent food and service!!! Owner and staff were very knowledgeable and checked labels on ingredients. They were able to safely accommodate both gluten free and vegan! Meat dishes were also wonderful. If you have the opportunity, eat at this restaurant!
My daughter said that the gluten free, vegan chocolate cake was fantastic; one of the best desserts that she has ever consumed!

Our server Kayla was very knowledgeable of the gluten free options, almost everything can be done gluten free. I had a breakfast Burrito very tasty.
To quote the waitress, “not a single thing with gluten touches our waffle makers”. So of course I had a Belgian waffle. And it was excellent. A good portion of the menu is gluten free or could be done gluten free. The staff was also knowledgeable and helpful.
Came here for my bachelorette brunch and was very impressed with their gluten free options! I ended up getting the Southern waffles and blood orange and peach mimosas. Service was top notch, food was absolutely amazing. The fried chicken on the waffles was perfect, very moist and crispy. Highly recommend it!
So many options almost everything on the menu is or can be made gluten-free. They even have gluten-free English muffin. Waffles French toast, gluten-free bread. We also got some bakery items to go oatmeal raisin cardamom cookie raspberry oat bar, a lemon ricotta cake and two more glory muffins for the road
Excellent experience. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff. All waffles are gluten free and delicious, AND they have some gluten free baked goods. Had a waffle and got a morning glory muffin to go. They also told me the fried chicken and home fries are gluten free due to dedicated fryer. Awesome experience!

We went to the Mystic location today, and I couldn't be more pleased. All of their waffles are safely gluten free and their fryers are totally gluten free. Almost all of their menu can be prepared gf. They are well-versed in Celiac-safe procedures. I had the strawberry waffle and could have easily brought half if it home for tomorrow, which, of course, I didn't do! Yup, ate it all! Finally, a safe breakfast spot in our area. Extremely friendly service, too.
