I recently visited Swansboro Food & Beverage Co. As someone with celiac disease, I value establishments that prioritize safe and delicious gluten-free meals. Unfortunately, my experience at Swansboro fell short of expectations.
I ordered an unsweetened iced tea, the house salad with a side of Mahi and corn clam chowder, all of which were listed as gluten-free options. Regrettably, after consuming this meal, I instantly felt ill. It was evident that there was an issue with cross-contamination or the ingredients used.
While I understand that mistakes can happen, it's crucial for restaurants to maintain strict protocols to prevent gluten contamination. For individuals with celiac disease, consuming even small amounts of gluten can have severe consequences, so it's disappointing when a restaurant claims to offer gluten-free options but fails to deliver on that promise.

I LOVE this restaurant as a celiac. Living in a small town, you often think you’ll never be able to eat places. They are great about making this a safe place for us. I always get the company burger with no bun or the chicken tacos. I’ve gotten French fries and never had an issue or the mashed potatoes! You HAVE to get the blackened chicken dip and ask for GF chips. The best option in Swansboro!

We started with the blackened chicken dip. I’m the only GF one in our group so they brought my my own chips and veggies to have with it. Then I got a cup of the clam chowder and it was beyond good. Then I got a Surf & Turf burger no bun and it was delightful. I can’t wait to come back. Everyone was so nice and accommodating!!!

The blackened chicken dip, burgers (no bun) and salad are the best here! No GF fryer but the staff is aware of celiac and will notify the kitchen employees. Always a great place to eat! Never get sick after.

Waitress brought up on her own the difference between choosing to eat gf and needing to for celiac disease, and she said the cooks pay attention to that. Had shrimp and grits and it was delicious.

Surf and turf burger (no bun) was DELICIOUS. A bit heavy but so good it was totally worth it. Cole slaw made a good side for it.
Separate gluten free menu, which I always love.

Super attentive staff!! I emailed the restaurant to ask what they offered that was gf. The manager responded very quickly with pics of their gf menu. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone erred on the side of caution. Great pimento cheese and shrimp and grits. Blackened mahi was really good too.
