Just amazing food and staff knew the options. Menu clearly marked GF and went there for lunch and dinner. For lunch had the tacos and they were amazing. Good authentic Mexican food. My go to when in SLC.
Tacos Don Ramon for lunch
Puntas De Filete A la Nortena for dinner.
We called ahead, asked about their gluten-free options, they assured us that I would be safe, and I am feeling super sick now. After reading other reviews, I understand why as they don’t have a gluten free fryer. I asked about the fried stuff and they said it should be fine, no gluten. Which obviously was not true. Frustrated that their servers misrepresented that.
I was hopeful after reading all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, I got sick very shortly after eating. The waitress said it’s a shared fryer so I even skipped the “gluten free chips and salsa” and chose an enchilada to avoid the fryer. I wouldn’t say I’m super sensitive either..
SO GOOD! Our waitress was amazing at answering any question I had. The food was amazing, and you can even eat the chips and salsa. Very happy with the service and everything about this place!
UPDATE March 2023: came back because it has been safe multiple times in the past and was told because it's Saturday they don't have time to change pans and gloves to make it safe for me. So I did not order. Our server knew nothing about what gluten was either. A little bit of time went by and he came out again saying the kitchen manager will personally make my food. The manager came out later in the meal to check on me as well. So, it started out not great but they ended up taking great care of me and the food was great.
I had always wondered if my ordered dishes were cross contaminated with other non gluten free food. Reason being, I was always getting a reaction from the assumption of taking all the precautions. (Always letting our server know I have celiac disease.)
Our recent visit, the server had brought my dish out 10 minutes later than my family's dishes, which is odd and has never happened before.
While my family waited until I received my meal, as so we can begin eating together... The server apologized, but informed me that when he went into the kitchen, he noticed my shredded beef tacos (labeled GF on menu) were being fried in a shared skillet with other gluten items.
Our server immediately informed the cook to throw away and remake my GF tacos in a clean, designated gluten free skillet.
To sum it up, if our amazing server wouldn't have witnessed the actual cross contaminated "mistake" in the kitchen, how often does it really happen?
I had called the manager the next day, feeling my trust for this location is lost, she assured me the chefs take all measures for celiac safety. Except the customers need to inform the servers "how much gluten free" they are for the kitchen to take precautions. I have done this every time... and yet, this happened. Be cautious.
Went to the have dinner at red iguana 2. Asked if the chips were cooked in a shared fryer. The server asked if it was due to an allergy and I said I was celiac. She said they were safe to eat. They are not made there but the company who they buy them from makes them safely. I had heard they made great moles there, but couldn’t decide, so I asked the server for her choice. Hands down this place probably has ruined Mexican food for me back home. I can’t say how authentic it is but the mole was amazing for me. I was very happy to have had a safe meal before I headed home. They mark items GF on the menu.
Was in town for a business trip, found Red Iguana 2 on this app, decided to try it. Very popular place as constant flow of customers. My waiter, Devon, was very nice and knowledgeable. Asked several questions about menu items, and he was very helpful. Suggested enchilada item (mango sauce that was sweet and a little spicy) on the menu that wasn't marked gf, but he told me how it could be ordered gf. It was a big portion, and very tasty.
Went back for dinner and ordered the traditional taco, they were very good too. Highly recommend, as I didn't get sick either meal.
Item are marked on the menu GF and our waiter was knowledgeable about celiac. One warning, they do have two styles of chips here. The chips for salsa are GF and not fried in the restaurant, they get them from a local company. However, our guacamole, which is listed as GF, came out of the kitchen with other chips in it that are fried at the restaurant and would have cross contamination. Fortunately our waiter was at our table when it was delivered and sent it back. Our son is celiac and sensitive to cross contamination. This could have made him sick.
Had the chips and salsa and the chicken tostada. Was really good! Waiter was informative and helpful and made me feel confident to eat here. There were a lot of gf options, so many that it was hard to decide what to order! Waiter brought it out and stated it was the gf meal— that always calms my fears too!
Fun atmosphere, staff was knowledgeable, GF items are marked on the menu. The chips and salsa on your table are gluten free—I double checked to make sure they weren’t fried in the same fryer as gluten items. I really wish I’d gotten something with mole sauce because that’s what they’re famous for. Instead I got Ramon’s Famous Fish Tacos. They were pretty disappointing and lacking flavor, but the rest of my family raved about their food. I’ll have to come back and try something else. Haha, it was also kind of weird that there were signs on the table saying that you had to ask for water because of the severe draught.
We always have an amazing experience at both locations, take out or dine-in. I eat here once every two weeks on average and I have never gotten sick. The food is delicious! And the staff is fantastic. If I ask a question they are not 100% sure about they check and explain in detail the answer. If they tell you it’s gluten free it is, no one here is going to agree if they aren’t sure.
Fast. Delicious. We were seated immediately! The food was steaming hot, arrived only a few minutes after ordering, and was so yummy! Our server Chelsea was kind, informed, friendly, and fast! I have celiac disease and they accommodated so well for my dietary needs! Central location! We sat in the 4 season porch. It was lovely, sunny, bright, and cheerful! Would definitely recommend!
The menu is marked for gluten free, but our server was not knowledgeable about gluten. I ordered tacos, which were corn tortillas, but fried in oil and I was sick the whole next day. I would not eat here again.
This location is great. The other one is not. Don’t go there.
I have always had a good experience and knowledgeable wait staff at this location. It is unclear whether the chips are GF since they are ordered from a supplier. The person I contacted could not confirm that the chips are GF, but stated that a common fryer is used for totopos and all other house-made fried items. Please note that the sauce on the traditional enchilada is not gluten free. You’ll need to get a different enchilada sauce.
Great food, extremely knowledgable and attentive waitress. All GF items clearly marked with plenty of option. Chips and salsa are GF. Mole was amazing. Wish I could give 6 stars!
This is an amazing place. I love it. There menu is clearly marked and also the chips and salsa are so good i get some to go every time! I had amazing enchiladas and was full and has leftovers! Have not been glutened once? And im very sensitive! Very friendly amazing service and amazing food! 10/10. Would highly reccomend and i am for sure going back!
Excellent moles. They even have a free sampler with all their moles. Careful! 7 of 8 moles are gf, but all were put on the plate. Chips and salsa were good. I ordered a combo plate to try a variety. I really wanted it to be great, but really only "meh". I feel okay but the quality just wasn't there. Guacamole was very smashed and seemed a little oily ?!? I didnt finish bcuz I was full, but not good enough to finish it off. Probably wont be back unless its with a group and I'll try a mole dish.
One of our favorites! There's so much variety for gluten free options and the food is absolutely delicious. Wait is usually around 30 minutes or so and is 100% worth it. My favorites are the traditional chicken tostadas and the enchiladas verdes, but I have literally never had anything here I didn't like.
Awesome restaurant. Great food. Celiac Daughter had nachos with no problem. Celiac Son had a cheese quesadilla and had diarrhea the rest of the night. I still recommend this restaurant, but not the quesadilla.
This is the BEST mexican food I've ever put in my mouth! They have a huge portion of their menu clearly marked with gf. They haven't left anything out, these items are just naturally gluten free. You must try the tacos Don Ramon and the enchiladas with mole Verde. My husband and I love this place! I have never gotten sick and I'm quite sensitive.
Lots of choices and the server knew all about everything. It was real Hispanic food and it tasted amazing!
