I returned to Red’s Eats after eating here 20 years ago prior to a Celiac diagnosis. Got the lobster roll and crab roll on the GF buttermilk bread. The bread was wonderfully toasted and had the texture and pull of any great bread. When my order was taken, I was assured that I would be safe, that the staff would change gloves. Had an AMAZING meal, worth the 2.5 hour wait on Labor Day weekend. I would do it again.

My friend told us about this place and said they have the best GF bread she’s ever had. I’m allergic to dairy, so unfortunately I couldn’t try the bread as all 3 GF options had dairy. My husband (Celiac) had it and said it was delicious. The lobster was amazing, even without butter. It was hands down the best lobster I’ve ever had. The staff was very good about writing allergies on the ticket and wrote celiac for the whole ticket because of my husband’s order. They change gloves and wipe equipment down. The staff were very attentive to everyone dining on the patio and waiting in line. It’s a great spot and I’m glad we were able to partake.

Lunch at Red’s Eats was a great experience! I had my first lobster roll there a few years ago, prior to my celiac diagnosis, and loved it. Unfortunately, I never dreamed that I would be able to eat there again. Much to my surprise, during my most recent visit, I read on their menu that they offer GF options. I’m very picky about eating at restaurants because I have gotten sick more times than not, but decided to give it a try. Debbie Gagnon, the owner of Red’s, took my order. She assured me that all employees would be required to change gloves, she questioned me about my sensitivity level, required all employees to change gloves, opened a brand-new crate of lobster and wrote “celiac” on my ticket without me asking her to. She was so kind throughout my interaction with her! The lobster roll is offered on three choices of locally made homemade GF toasted bread. Needless to say, I did not get sick, my lunch was delicious and I returned later in the week for another lobster roll. Debbie wasn’t there when I returned, but my experience was just as wonderful. Thank you Red’s Eats for a fantastic lunch and for making me feel completely comfortable eating one of my favorite foods!

not great! the lobster roll really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, it’s just a TON of lobster. i was able to get it on gluten free bread (i don’t know why everyone is saying they couldn’t get bread, they just cleaned the grill for me) but it really wasn’t very good

Who doesn’t love a lobster roll! It’s pretty classic, but wildly pricey and definitely not worth the crazy hype. Get a lobster anywhere, as long as it says the meat is fresh picked, and I guarantee it will be just as good and better worth your money.
We waited in line for an hour but it was worth it! I had a delicious lobster roll but on a bed of lettuce instead of on even the GF bread. The staff said they do share the same grill as the gluten bread and told me that without me needing to ask. So I felt that they were knowledgeable about the seriousness of celiac and cross contamination. I also heard her say to the team that this order was celiac.
Yes
All GF bread is grilled on the same cooktop as the regular bread. After standing in line for 90 min, we placed our order for lobster rolls on GF bread. When asked if celiac, I said yes. Was then told that nothing was safe for me on their menu because of cross contamination. Why advertise GF if you don't actually have anything GF?
No
Offers gf lobster rolls on lettuce/tomato or on local gf bread. They will change gloves and such if you have Celiac's. They do not recommend using the gf bread since they can't avoid cross contamination on their grill. very knowledgeable though.
Yes
Cross contamination is very likely as it is a little stand on the side of the street but lobster roll was very good! It is not a traditional roll as it doesn't have mayo on it and is served with drawn butter. They had three or four different types of gf bread that she said was made in Damariscotta by a lady who calls herself the Bread Lady. I tried the buttermilk bread and it was spectacular! Outdoor seating! Great location! Staff was friendly! Very pricey but it's the first lobster roll I've been able to eat on bread and actually feel full after eating.
Don't pass on this landmark eatery by if you love lobster. Very sweet staff who took extra care to wash hands, putting gf food on diff tray, and creating a lettuce bed for more than 2 claws and 2 tails of meat piled high! Husband is convinced they felt sorry for me so gave more meet than on his roll! Yum!
By far one of the best lobster rolls there is. I've had them with the gluten bun and today had it with the Gluten free local bakery bread. Good buttermilk bread to go with, well let's face it, the star of the roll, the lobster! Not sure if celiac friendly, may be some cross contamination there. It is a small shack.
