5 Stars - For the food quality and imagination. 4 stars for a few items....nice to have a delicious 5 course meal with folks from around the world....the Netherlands, France, Brazil, South Africa, and the USA were all represented. The restaurant accommodated my gluten free diet while presenting really interesting and tasty dishes. The 1st course was Hake fish with a crunchy nut crumble. The 2nd course was seared ostrich with a hoisin-like sauce and fresh greens that was cooked perfectly and really flavorful. The 3rd course was a soup with carrots and vanilla with a chili con carne and a mild chili popper rolled in chickpea flour and deep fried. The 4th course was cheese with homemade crackers and smoke-flavored beet root jam. The 5th course was dessert — pancetta with strawberry jelly and shortbread with cream and marmalade. The food was amazing. Service was very good. A few not so amazing details...The order in which it was served was unorthodox and a little strange. The greens served with the duck were very strong flavored and overwhelmed the delicate duck flavors. The wine pairings were quite strange and not particularly to our liking, especially the order in which they were served (switching between white and red and then back again). The only other complaint is that it was quite loud in the dining room and difficult to hear what other guests were saying.
