They didn’t offer me a gluten free menu until I had already tried to order the special and asked about the plantains. Per the chef, they are fried in a shared fried, but I should fine because there’s barely any contamination. I ordered the Thai coconut chicken soup without the wonton. It came served with the wonton. I ended up with a new bowl but it was incredibly disappointing. I think I ended up with maybe 1/2 cup of soup for $10 and the chicken in it was chopped and somehow dry? Not sure how they managed that with a soup, but here we are. It was the worst meal I had on St. John and I wouldn’t go back. You’re better off at Skinny Legs or even driving back to Cruz Bay.

I have eaten at Rhumb Lines at at least 20 times since my celiac diagnosis, and I've never gotten sick, but that said, you have to ask the right questions and make sure you know what you're getting. They do have a gluten free menu as of a few years ago, but you still have to be careful; for example, one of the dishes on the gluten free menu contains frizzled leeks, which go into the fryer (and it is not a dedicated fryer). One of my favorite dishes in the world is their sesame crusted rice cakes, but they either have to pan fry them or bake them so they're celiac safe (and I substitute the dipping sauce and get the peanut sauce...yum!).

After extensive discussion with 2 servers about exactly which items were gluten free, I was served wheat noodles. I ate one bite and suspected right away , but the damage was done. I asked again what kind of noodles they were. They ended up calling the owner and discovered that they were indeed wheat (+buckwheat) noodles. There had been a menu change. After they acknowledged their mistake and apologized, THEN they brought over a GF menu which they had not offered me before I ordered, despite all my questions about ingredients and telling them I had celiac. The server said “Here’s our GF menu if you want to come back again”. Um, I don’t think I’ll be back.
