They literally had no idea what gluten was. Couldn’t find the allergen menu and when they finally did, it didn’t list any of the sauces. I ordered the plain onigiri and it came covered in eel sauce which usually isn’t gf. They remade my food but when they came over to “apologize” they basically said it was my fault for not telling them i was allergic because they assumed it was a preference.

I loved this place- first time ever trying Japanese food! They have a clearly marked allergen guide, and I didn’t have to ask for them to change gloves or anything; once I mentioned that I had Celiac they automatically jumped to allergy protocols. Because the non-GF items are mostly fillings it felt relatively safe even when prepared in the same area. Most of the onigiri and hand rolls are safe as well as a handful of the sides, and gluten free soy sauce is available on request (they get it from a bottle in the back).

Have been here twice and both times were safe (and delicious). They have a separate menu with allergen labels. Having actual GF options at a casual Japanese chain is definitely not the norm and greatly appreciated! There’s another in South Pasadena which I’ll try eventually.

Can we please stop giving a high rating to restaurants with only three GF options??

My newest obsession! At least two onigiri can be made gluten free (and sesame free) and they’re both divine! Good value as well. Can’t wait to visit again.

They have a menu guide with clearly marked gluten containing and gluten free options. They have gf furikake to add to the onigiri. Super yummy and hard to find GF in little Tokyo area.
