Gluten free options clearly marked on the menu including several kinds of pasta, salad dressings and pizza crust. The server brought our kids GF pasta with regular bread (oops!) so be sure to express your gluten intolerance or Celiac disease very clearly to your server. She said they have dedicated cooking space in the pizza oven. Good vegetarian options as well.
great place I'm celiac and they double checked everything. love Russo's.
Has a special place for cooking GF noodles and pizza. Checked items before putting them into the salad or pizza to make sure that they where GF. Also they serve alcohol. The sample of wine is enough to lessen a reaction from cross contamination if their are any accidents.
Yes, they have gluten-free pizza crust and pasta... but the staff doesn't have gluten free knowledge. When I asked for a pasta dish to be made with gf pasta, and tried to confirm that the rest of the dish would be gf, the manager wasn't sure and went back to check with the cooks. When he came back, he said they weren't sure either. He then tried to explain that they don't know anything about gluten free diets or how to be gluten-friendly, and that they need training. He then asked me if I knew how he would go about getting educated in gluten-free menu items. So... I spent a bit of my meal looking online for websites for him to look at. Other than the lack of knowledge (which is most important), the food was delicious...
The gluten free pizza was the best I've had in a long time. The staff was very friendly. Would definitely go back.
I've eaten here a couple times and had the gf pizza. It's just ok. Today's visit, the pizza was very over cooked (burned on the edges) making it very tough. It's also expensive bc, of course, the gf pizza only comes in one size. $25+ for one person to eat lunch is just too expensive for me when the food is just ok.
Gluten free pizza and pasta
i thought the pasta was good. the pizza however was a giant dissapointment. very little topping and to make it worse as a celiac i got sick. Plus not as many options as other reviewrs suggest, there is pizza and pasta, you can also get the starting bread gf, where they take the gf pizza crust and make the bread. however even though it is provided when not gf, there is a charge if you get the gf version. for the price there are safer places with much better tasting pizza in town.
First - this restaurant isn't a one-dollar-sign restaurant, but much more expensive. That needs to be updated. I had a bowl of GF alfredo for $15, and shrimp add-on for another $6. It was decent, but not great, and certainly wasn't worth the cost. I did have some issues afterward. Be cautious.
Unfortunately, our visit was not good. I ordered the GF baked ziti first. Waiter came back and said that they were out of GF pasta due to a power outage. True... that was not their fault, however, I ordered a GF pizza ... crust was chewy. Not good. Also, food was served at three different times. (Kids' pizzas first, mine 5-10 minutes later, and my husband finally got his food when the rest of us were done eating.) Then, the waiter told us he took the ziti off the tab ... so we thought they comp'd a meal. But we were still charged for the four pizzas. ??? I would certainly hope we wouldn't have to pay for the ziti we never got!!
Really enjoyed the GF pizza and GF Ziti. Fresh ingredients. Manager was very helpful in GF choices. Amanda M, Houston
Gluten free pizza and pasta options. I had the pizza and it was good. Next visit will have the pasta. The portions are big. Nice, clean place. Looking forward to going back.
Meh, not the best. If you want good gluten-free pizza in Memphis, try Pyro's instead. I've had better frozen pizza than this. The crust was burnt, and the center was so soft it felt like it was going to fall apart. They also messed up my order with the toppings (not a big deal), but the service was a little slow and it just wasn't worth the price for pizza. That said, they do offer a huge, and I mean HUGE menu, (read online before going in) so I would go back again, I would maybe just try a pasta dish instead next time though! (Their food did not give me any sort of reaction.)
Tasty pizza and pasta dishes. I have been to the 290 and 6 location several times and have never been glutened. They use separate dishes, utensils, strainers, etc for the gluten free food. The pizza is a good size and the pasta dishes come with a generous portion. No extra charge for gluten free pizza! Each time I have gone the waiters/waitresses have been friendly and knowledgeable.
My wife is a celiac and we ate at this place just recently in Dallas and were pleasantly surprised to find we had one in Tulsa! They don't have a specific gluten free menu but they do have items on their menu marked as gluten free. My wife had Alfredo with gluten free pasta and really enjoyed it.
Great customer service! Knowledge servers. Apparently Mr Russo himself dedicated 6 months to creating the perfect GF crust. Ordered the Greek pizza and it was so delicious. I wanted more. They said Medium pizzas are GF and get whatever toppings you want. Also have spaghetti and penne dishes GF.
GF Pizza is decent. My son seems to really enjoy it, but I usually stick to the GF Caesar salad when I am there now. I react worse than he does and I just don't see how they are keeping things from getting cross contaminated in their kitchen. It's a lil iffy, esp when they are slammed with customers at lunch time. If you are super sensitive to gluten and/or wheat I would say avoid at times when they are really busy. As a general rule it's much safer to eat out at slightly odd times...esp at places with small kitchens where it's hard (if not impossible) to have an allergen free area. At least they are nice and do seem to be trying here.
Best gluten free pizza I have had. I have tried the pasta too and it is delicious! Russo's has a gluten free menu with a lot of great options. They can also make any pizza gluten free (in the personal pizza size)!
Had the gf pizza a year or so ago, and it was wonderful. Today, however, I barely made it home after eating 2 slices of my gf pizza. I'm now sick from cross contamination. I should've not eaten it at all after having to send back the plate that was brought to me for being dirty. I don't know if they have become too relaxed concerning their gf foods or if staff is not trained properly anymore. If I would've been asked if cross contamination was an issue for me, I would've gladly sat and enjoyed a drink. Now, I will have my life, as well as my children's lives, interrupted while being sick/reacting for 3 days to six weeks. Please Russo's either make changes or don't offer gluten free.
