Updating because we have ordered Satchels a couple more times recently, and had great experience. They separate out anything with gluten.Yummy BBQ with fixings, most GF and well labeled. Staff understands. Have eaten here many times w/o any problem. Small dining area, great for take-out.

Awesome experience! Just about everything is gluten free, minus the cornbread, buns, bread pudding, Mac n cheese, and gumbo. Really tasty! I saw the person taking the order specifically tell the preparer that there was a gluten allergy (when I say I have celiac, I say it's like a severe gluten allergy). Make sure you try the vinegar coleslaw!
ALSO huge bonus, no idea if this is standard, but offered to sub in another side since I couldn't have the cornbread!

I've been by here dozens of times...finally we stopped in early on a Sunday as they started service. We were greeted by friendly and very helpful guys who were eager to make us feel right at home. I explained my food allergies and these were handled with ease and no problem, as they helped me figure out what would be safe from their chalkboard menu of fabulous food.
The food--we had chicken and brisket, with a variety of sides. For my gluten and dairy allergies, I stayed with the collard greens and Satchel stew, which were both great. The brisket rice bowl was tasty and just enough for lunch. My husband had a pick-2 of chicken plus brisket, with baked beans and Mac and cheese with corn bread. He enjoyed it all.
The place is clean, organized and food is plated quickly.
While there, people came for take out (they had called ahead) and others started to come by for dine-in. A little bbq place that is hidden near Whole Foods that has survived for 12 years and through a pandemic is on to something....recommend you stop in and experience it for yourself. We will be back for sure.

I’ve been here several times and never gotten sick. All meats and sauces, as well as some sides (collared greens, beans and rice, mashed potatoes), are gluten free. Be sure to tell the cashier about your food allergy and make sure the person preparing your food puts on a new pair of plastic gloves. Deducting one star because of a close call. I got a chicken and rice bowl with mashed potatoes (it all comes in one container) and they gave me mac and cheese instead. I told the cashier, and the kitchen just dumped out the mac and cheese and replaced it with mashed potatoes. I told the cashier about cross contamination and he was very apologetic and rushed out a new rice bowl very quickly.
