Review of Scargo Cafe

I have eaten here several times over the years and each time I ask myself why do I come here. Maybe it’s for the sweet pea and lobster risotto which I love or their delicious onion soup both of which can be made gluten free. They have delicious food with many gluten free options, however, their allergy protocol leaves much to be desired. Every time I go there I feel like I am imposing on them because I ask for my gluten free food to be brought out separately. Last night was the worst. When the waitress brought out my gluten free bread with my husband’s gluten filled bread after being asked to bring my stuff out separately she told us she used different hands. We then requested different bread. When that was delivered my husband ( my biggest advocate) said to her, please bring my wife’s meal out the same way. Her response was “I get it, I’m not retarded”. What an ignorant thing for someone to say. She then asked what we wanted and I said, “ a different table”. I spoke to a Manager and we were moved and my food was brought out separately but that put a damper on the night out. This is not a cheap restaurant as our bill was over $100 for two with no liquor or desserts so I feel for that amount of money ( or any amount for that matter) it shouldn’t be so hard to get a restaurant to take gluten free seriously and to make the diner feel comfortable. We were also comped nothing for the outrageous treatment.
