They were very accomidating when we went for lunch. The menu listed all of the gluten free (or items that can be made gluten free). There was a wide variety of safe options, we split a sampler sausage plate and a schnizle plate, but there were so many items we'll be back to try the rest out. There is one gluten free beer which my sister enjoyed, and its been 2 days and no reaction or problems, so no cross contamination.
Lots of Gluten free options and the flavor was pretty good! The server let us know the kitchen staff takes extra care to prepare food in seperate area to avoid cross contamination. The main entree even came out in a covered dome. One big drawback was the wait time to get our food since they had to make the GF schnitzel fresh it took quite a long time to come out!
Beware, the new owner (since 2020) does NOT care about food allergies.
I ordered my food dairy-free, was told it was no problem, and it came out half smothered in hollandaise sauce. The server immediately took responsibility for it and said they would remake it. Since it had been 90 minutes since we ordered, I was starving, so I told her to go ahead and remake it but that I was going to start eating from the safe end of the plate in the meantime. The owner then came over with a smirk on his face, arms folded, and seemed to question whether I really had a food allergy/intolerance. I told him I had started eating from the safe end while they remade another because I was so hungry. In response to remaking the food, he said with a huff, "really? just because of that little bit?" He ultimately refused to remake it, agreed to take it off my bill, and I left hungry. I was shocked that a place with such a great gf selection could be so flippant about allergies, but we then found out that as of 2020, it is being run by a new owner. It seems the former owner's tradition of allergy-friendly food is lost on this guy. I will not be back considering he is very likely cutting corners when it comes to safety if he thinks a little hollandaise sauce is no big deal to someone who can’t have dairy.
I loved it, and I especially loved that they brought out my plate with a cover so that my dinner companion’s plate didn’t contaminate mine during transit!
How could it be so different?
On Palm Sunday in April my family and I dined at Schnitzelplatz and had a perfect, yes perfect, gluten free German meal. Wait staff was wonderful. Sauerbraten was exactly as it should taste, German salad was fresh. We all loved our meals. Was so impressed! Then I returned yesterday and had a horrible experience with a server, the worst Sauerbraten ever …meat was fine but sauce was NOT a sauerbraten sauce to match the meat, I scraped it off, ate some of my meal but it was NOT the same delicious dinner we had 2 months prior. Even the side dishes were subpar. I got glutened and was really sick today! All the care and good food of our first visit was gone! So, not sure what to advise! Was it a different cook? A wacky waitress? New owners? No consistency except this off story they tell you before they let you order sauerbraten about how some people don’t like their version. Ok, I loved it the first time. I am German. I lived and worked in Germany.
GLUTEN FREE HEAVEN. Child of owner has celic so almost entire menu GF, even the gravy! Just tell them. They are very friendly, helpful, and understand gluten sensitivity. A GREAT find.
