Got terribly sick. Was told they have a dedicated fryer, was assured that nothing gluten goes in the fryer. We had the fish and chips. The chowder is also apparently gluten free. I spent the whole night and next day in the bathroom. 😔 I'm not sensitive to cross contamination, so I had to have been heavily glutened.

The fish & chips was delicious. I also ordered the onion rings the best I have ever had!!! I had no reaction & came back for more onion rings and tried the tacos. I would ask for no sauce but still didn’t get sick. Love this place to have a wonderful meal and not worry if I’ll be sick.

This place was great! Lots of gluten free options, a dedicated fryer, and a knowledgeable staff!

Update: I’m back again, 2 years later, and these guys are still as good as ever! Also following all Covid safety protocols and doing a great job!

I was excited to see all the gf options but when I asked the server about cross contamination he was sure to tell me there would be contamination since the chefs touch bread and other gluten. I asked if they would change gloves and take precautions to avoid contamination and he said no, they wouldn’t. The server was very rude. I asked to speak to a manager and he said there wasn’t one on. Celiacs stay far away.

Don't be fooled by all the GF call outs on the menu. When we were ordering the waitress with attitude told us that our child with celiac had to order off the menu and could not bring food in. She stated it was Oregon law. They need to train their staff about food allergies, celiac disease, and Oregon law. I understand no outside food with the entire place is GF, but that is not the case here. There is no way this place/kitchen is celiac safe with their lack of knowledge and kindness. We were a group of 25 and 1 person was not ordering food, this couldn't have been about the money.

No

The menu looks promising with a GF symbol next to 95% of the items, however this is incredibly misleading. Not only did we clarify the GF status of the items we ordered, we emphasized when ordering that the food must be GF. When the dishes arrived we clarified again - this is GF? The waiter’s response was snarky “is pasta gluten free? I don’t know?” but my dishes were in fact NOT gluten free. The outright ignorance and dismissive attitude by the servers combined with a menu full of “mistakes” means that if you’re Celiac, avoid this place at all costs.

I found this place to be very accommodating. The gluten free fish and chips were a very surprising and delicious find. Here is the menu description:

Local, drug free, water based, organic, gluten free, bicycle friendly, free range, hand cut, fresh caught Oregon rockfish.

Really the only fully gluten free options are the humus plate or salad. If you CAN deal with cross contamination from frying it opens up most of the menu. They advertise lots of gluten free options and you get excited until you ask about a dedicated fryer. "the only gluten item we fry is the chicken strips so it's not a lot" Food really lacked flavor but staff was super nice.

I have been getting the fish tacos with grilled fish for a few years now when we go down on the weekends and have never had a reaction. I'm celiac so I don't eat the chips that are fried with glutenous things. They're able to accommodate gluten free but not a dedicated facility

Update 2017: After my initial review this place changed their menu. The last time I ate there the fish is still in a dedicated frier but not the fries. I requested the fries be fried in the oil with the fish. Unfortunately I got sick anyway. Make sure you clarify. Seaside Brewing is a brew pub. The Fish and Chips are gluten free and fried in a dedicated fryer. They have several gluten free menu options, fish tacos, salads, nachos etc. The fish and chips were crispy and good. They have no gluten free beer but had a very good cider. They have a selection of burgers but unsure if they have gluten free buns.

This was a very disappointing experience. I was so excited after reading the reviews and we headed to this restaurant specifically to eat gluten free fish and chips. Before I ordered, I decided to verify that they had a dedicated fryer, as stated in the listing. NO! They said they do not have room in their kitchen for a dedicated fryer, and they fry breaded chicken pieces in the fryer. So in spite of the fact that they state on their menu that some of their items are gluten free, they obviously are not. They may be made with gluten free ingredients, but they do not understand that cooking "gluten free" items in a contaminated fryer makes the item not safe. I don't understand all of the high ratings given this information. Obviously their are people who leave reviews who do not require gluten free food, and have no idea what gluten free is all about. Also, my husband ordered the fish and chips and said they weren't even that good.

5/5 for food options and have anthem cider on tap. Fish and chips is automatically gluten free, even breaded! Excellent flavor and good portion for the price. The server was a little spacey.
