I ordered online and the restaurant actually called me to let me know that the pork i ordered had gluten (soy sauce) so they DO read the notes and are knowledgeable and careful. Love to see it.

Shinsen has been a standard go to option for my celiac partner since it opened. Items are labeled, carry out orders are well labeled, and waitstaff brings up concerns as needed.
Learned this last visit that the fryer is shared and NOT dedicated after ordering the karaage fried chicken but ordered anyways as we’ve never had an issue with it since they e opened. Well tonight was the first issue and figured I’d post about. Was well warned so no complaints to the staff or management. Will definitely be back and be more cautious of their shared fryer.

Great gluten free pad see ew and fried rice (prepared in a hot stone bowl)! (Neither is marked but you just need to ask the server) Highly recommend for East Asian food in downtown Evanston.

Shinsen is great! I’ve had at least 25 meals there in the last year. I’ve never gotten glutened. Some things are marked as gluten free on the menu. But you can ask if they can make anything else gluten free. The servers are thoughtful and kind. You can always ask them to double check with the kitchen as to whether something can be made GF. I’ve had the Teka Don, salmon avocado and tuna avocado rolls, miso soup, chicken wings, and there’s a gluten free noodle dish listed on the menu. If it’s a new server I double check that the kitchen knows how to avoid cross contamination in the kitchen. Sometimes the portions are small, but it’s always been worth it for the peace of mind. When it’s a to go order, I ask them to put “celiac disease / severe gluten allergy” on the ticket. They have always taken great care of me. And their food is delicious.

They are fantastic! I can't have gluten, eggs or dairy. They have tamari instead of soy when requested and ensure everything they give me is safe. I love them! The food is delicious and people there are warm and kind. Excellent food quality and service!

Wonderful place to get sushi and some other options - soup, skewers, some noodle/rice dishes. Right off the bat, the staff were very knowledgeable about celiac and proactively described how to take care when preparing a dish without gluten. It is awesome. The servers know how to modify sushi to be gluten free, even if it isn't listed as gf. My partner has celiac and she's eaten here 3 times the last 3 weeks with no issues whatsoever. It's a new staple for our household! Add on top of this that the food is delicious and the atmosphere is chill and fun. Couldn't recommend it more highly for celiacs.

Lots of options and they’re delicious! They do not use wheat-based rice vinegar in the sushi rice and they have fresh wasabi too! (Some wasabis have wheat)

Ordered takeout. Staff on phone was knowledgeable and very patient. Many dishes are marked GF but many others can be made GF. For example, they can make spider rolls with corn starch instead of tempura. Delicious food. All of the take out containers were marked and labeled with ingredients and GF. They also gave a bonus edamame for free! They can give you GF soy sauce. I would recommend for celiacs craving sushi!
