We ate on the first floor and we had a great experience! The gf items were clearly marked on the menu. I ordered the chicken meatballs over fries with crack sauce. It was delicious! The waitress seemed newer and less knowledgeable about allergies, etc., though I had no issues after eating my meal. Would recommend and will be back!
Recently had a rough experience when my daughter and I both ordered gluten free pasta. The server placed my daughter's pasta down and confirmed it was gluten free as she served it. A few minutes later, my gluten free pasta arrived but was a totally different shape. I inquired with the server and she checked with the kitchen and then we were informed my daughter's pasta was NOT gluten free as previously stated. Sadly, my daughter had already started eating it. Another Celiac in the party got very sick afterwards even though all her items were confirmed gluten free by the kitchen. I would not trust this establishment if you have Celiac.
My boyfriend and I ate on the first floor and had a great experience! GF options were clearly marked on the menu, and I was able to order the chicken meatballs with gluten free penne and tomato basil cream. I’m very sensitive to cross contamination, and had no issues after eating here.
They have only one meatball that’s Gluten free, the chicken one, I got them over French fries and crack sauce. It was delicious. I couldn’t finish all four meatballs only 2. Not sure if Celiacs can have. They also had gluten free penne pasta and other gluten free sauces.
A great restaurant and meal! Very knowledgeable about GF and everything was marked clearly on the menu. We enjoyed GF penne with red sauce and chicken meatballs, GF poutine and GF tater tots! Yum!!
Emporio has gluten free chicken meatballs (only meatball that’s GF) and a few GF sauces and sides. The menu is marked!
Very frustrating. We had seating on the second (Mezzo) of three levels. They did not have a separate GF menu and I was told by the host that the server was supposed to be their best in respect to gluten knowledgable. He wasn't. Didn't have a clue and didn't really seem to care. He told me that most things could be prepped GF but would not address the cross-contamination question. I ended up having a cheese plate. The meatball level is the first level. The second level would not let me place a meatball order even tough the first level seems to be safe from cross-contamination. The meatball place (Emporio) appears to be the GF place to eat at this joint. I won't go back to this place because the server was so disrespectful about my gluten issue. Ate there on 6-2-18
We went to the downstairs section (Emporio). Got three meatballs and a side of herb and Parmesan fries in the tomato cream sauce. Way too much food but tasted great. Love that they use a dedicated fryer for the fries! Will be back the next time I am in Pittsburgh.
If you want a smaller portion or are calorie counting, I might order 2 meatballs and then split a side with another party member if possible. Especially if you get the fries, it's a huge basket.
Excellent Food. I got the chicken meatballs with crack sauce over the parmesan fries with a side salad and balsamic dressing. All were excellent and gluten free
We ate on the 2nd floor (Mezzo), and I was hesitant because I thought only the meatballs on the 1st floor were gf. Our waiter was VERY knowledgeable (his sister has celiac's) and helped me choose a gf penne with braised beef that he even made dairy free as well. He pointed out several items on the menu that were either naturally gf or that he could adjust to be gf. I did get sick after eating here, but I do not believe it was this meal that did it; we had eaten out at every meal for 2 days before this, which always throws my system off! I will eat here again.
Eaten here several times with no issues. I always get the same thing: chicken meatballs, marinara, tomato risotto
Server was extremely knowledgeable of the gluten-free options! I got the chicken meatballs with marinara and a side of tater tots because it's hard to find a dedicated fryer where I am from. Both were delicious! There is a lot of dairy in their menu though so if you have a cross sensitivity be aware.
I was nervous going to an Italian resteraunt and expecting to a find a good gluten free meal. I was blown away by the variety of choices. While there wasn't a separate menu, I was informed to ask my server for suggestions. She was very knowledgeable and accurate with her suggestions. I had the pork cut of the day. It was delicious!
Everything that is gluten free on the menu is clearly marked. I was skeptical when I saw that their fries and tater tots were gluten free, but our server was extremely knowledgeable about how the food was prepared. Turns out, the fries and tots are fried in a separate fryer from the breaded food! I had a turkey Parmesan meatball over gluten free penne with spinach almond pesto sauce. Absolutely delicious! I also took a side of tomato risotto home as leftovers, which was heavenly. I'll be back - this is a fabulous restaurant with low prices, lots of gluten free options, and knowledgeable staff!
I went to Sienna on the Square. The Scallop Risotto was fantastic! There was not a gluten free menu, but the waitress was able to tell me which options on the menu were gluten free right away. There was a scallop dish, salmon dish, chicken dish, soup and salads to choose from. Although this particular menu wasn't advertised as gluten friendly, I have celiac disease and walked away from my meal pain free!
