Terribly designed menu but the server was extremely helpful - this location does have a “gluten free menu” however it is incredibly poorly designed. They claim that Shiner Bock is a low gluten beer (seriously...) and that it is used to marinate one of their “gluten free” dishes. They do not have a dedicated fryer, be sure to ask for a regular menu as well so you can read through the descriptions to ask for fried items to be removed. My waiter was excellent and answered all of my questions. I ended up going with the risotto without the fried mushrooms and my dish was delicious. Overall not a place for the less experienced at asking questions to go to, but better than most of my dining experiences on South Congress. If I had not had such a great waiter this location would definitely be receiving a much lower star rating.
My star is based on the staff knowledge (or lack of ) ... Ordered eggs Benny off 'Gluten sensitive ' which means no bread or potato cake. Said clearly 2 times when ordering and pointing to menu. Was brought a regular Benny plate and waitress didn't understand problem. She didn't really get what bread or gluten was. Explained it about 4 times. Then manager came and said she can't guarantee the bread isn't GF ... Um yeah it's not at all which is why I asked for NO BREAD AND ORDERED IT OFF THE GF MENU. Finally got it right after I got to watch my boyfriend eat all his lunch. No comped meal just a bunch of sorrys... How can people still be so ignorant even when they have a GF OR GLUTEN friendly menu?
Very cool place and very attentive to gluten free offerings.
