This place was really good! Our server, Ron, took extra care with our food allergies and sensitivities at the table. When he wasn’t sure of ingredients, he checked with the chef. My husband and I shared the roasted cauliflower appetizer, grouper and sweet potato waffle fries. Server said the regular fries were not safe. They even had multiple GF desserts. The peanut butter chocolate chip cookies are also dairy free. Our friends without food sensitivities absolutely loved their dishes as well.
Excellent food. Delicious meal. Abundant GF options. Knowledgeable staff. Scallop entree with sweet potato hash was delicious. Salad was great. My family loved the meal. Waterfront.
I'm writing this because it is difficult to find restaurants that can safely serve a celiac. Vacation planning is different for us and is time consuming. When we find a review that reports a safe restaurant, but is not, it can end an evening.
My wife did a lot of research to find a restaurant that could serve me. We went to the Square Grouper. It is a beautiful restaurant, that is quite busy with lots of patrons. We were looking forward to an evening out.
After waiting for almost 90 minutes for our table, we were seated. I sat down and reviewed the menu and it matched the online descriptions. I spoke to the waiter who informed me that they could only serve one menu item gluten free (fish stew, which wasn't listed on the menu as gluten free). And he didn't seem very confident about it.
That's a big let down. All over their menu they list GF. But he had confirmed it really wasn't. The reviews online state GF, but he had confirmed it really wasn't.
I encouraged my wife to eat without me, but she didn't want to eat while i just sat there. So we picked up and left about 90 minutes of waiting.
This restaurant should be removed from the safe dining for celiacs. The reviews are 100% incorrect.
Once again, a beautiful place that I would have enjoyed dining at. But it's not safe for celiacs and is crowding out potential restaurants for people who need GF food.
Amazing! GO EARLY!! LIKE 4:50! We got there at 5:15 and there was already an hour wait. Service was amazing and they were knowledgeable about gluten. GF options are marked. Almond crusted grouper was amazing. Baked goat cheese also amazing! They also have GF dessert options. Highly recommend.
We had a great experience! They don’t have a gluten free menu, but the staff was very knowledgeable about gluten and celiac desease. The waitress explained what was gluten free and what could be made gluten free. They were knowledgeable about cross contamination too. We had the shrimp dip with corn tortillas and the corn tortillas were fried in the morning with fresh oil, so they were safe to eat.
The food was amazing, one of the best I’ve had at the Keys.
We ate at the sunset lounge, I don’t know if the menu is different at the restaurant.
I noticed locals of the keys posting about this place being celiac safe. It was super cute, menu was clearly marked with GF, and server seemed knowledgeable at first. She told me they toast bread on their grill so I asked for my steak to be cooked in a pan. When it came out I noticed grill marks and asked again she said chef said it was okay. I decided to then test with my Nima sensor came back with gluten. Manger was a rude 20 something guy who basically couldn’t grasp how cross contamination could be an issue for me. I did end up eating burrata hoping something out of a package would be safe and that way okay and I did not get sick. Be careful about your choices here for celiacs
