**Call ahead to make sure their dedicated fryer is actually available and check to make that the items marked GF are absolutely GF.**
I was really looking forward to eating here since it supposedly had a dedicated fryer and appeared to have a nice selection of GF offerings. This turned out to be quite disappointing.
Their dedicated GF fryer was not in operation, or “down”. The “smoked”wings are cooked in the same fryer as their breaded chicken patties, for whatever reason. The fries are also cooked in the contaminated fryer. I ended up having a side garden salad with a side of grilled chicken. The grilled chicken was tough and took quite a lot of chewing. The ranch wasn’t even flavorful enough to save the subpar salad.
They did have a risotto that was GF, but my husband ordered it and I was glad that I didn’t (although it might have been easier to chew!) bc it was pretty underwhelming for the price. It tasted like the risotto component of the dish was cooked without seasoning and pre-cooked separately then microwaved with some cheese and then topped with whatever add on the customer chooses. Also, ordered a coffee which tasted like it was made with old grounds as the flavor was severely lacking and was the color of tea. We sent it back.
The server didn’t once express any care for the multitude of inconveniences. She seemed like she was just trying to get it over with. We remained pleasant throughout and still tipped her 20%, we know the inconveniences were kitchen issues and not her fault and she may have been having a bad night.
The saving grace of the meal were the crab cakes. They were well prepared with little to no filler. They were pan fried, so celiac safe. They were on the smaller side and $20 for 2. Had I not been thrown off by the unavailability of most of my order, I would have just ordered another plate of crab cakes.
I don’t know that I care to return should we ever come back to Big Bear. Our bill came to $75, before tip. For what we ate and the quality of the experience, it was off putting and regrettable. Basically, wished we would have just ordered the crab cakes as a takeout item and had dinner elsewhere.
Nice to sit outside and the food was good. I think the staff was the best part about it. I only marked at four stars because it is a bit pricey for what it is especially when it comes to adding anything like a tomato to the Burger.
Amazing restaurant!!! Great service and great food. Everything but 1 item on the menu has a gluten free option. We were told the owner has celiac disease, so they are well aware of cross contamination. They have a dedicated fryer. We had… gf pancakes 5/5- didn’t even know they were gf. Gf grilled cheese 4/5 French fries 5/5 (crispy, homemade, delicious) Sweet potato fries 5/5 Gf cheese cake 🤤 10/5
Super happy to have found this spot for our trips up the mountain. Food was excellent. Came for dinner, then came back for lunch a couple days later. Seemed understaffed, but both waiters were great. Enjoyed the truffle fries. REALLY enjoyed my burger. Had a tasty BLTA sandwich for lunch. Roasted zucchini/squash was fabulous. Wife's sandwiches (gluten focaccia bread) were a hit. Definitely pricey, but that's Big Bear. Great kombucha on tap. Enjoyed the pet-friendly patio area for lunch.
Was in Big Bear with friends for the weekend and really wanted to try this place out. We loved it. As soon as our waiter said the owner has celiac I felt instantly comfortable. I ordered the crab benedict and it was fantastic. I’m also allergic to nightshades and can’t eat potatoes. They subbed them with fruit for me. I don’t know when the last time was I had good honeydew in a restaurant, but the honeydew in the fresh fruit bowl was so flavorful. I wish they had a few more coffee options as I’m not a drinker and the majority of the drinks were alcoholic. As far as safety of dishes, however, this place is a must.
Was in big bear for a girls weekend was lucky enough to try this place out! Had the truffle fries which were to die for!! (Dedicated fryer) I had their homemade tomato soup which I found a little grainy. They made me the most amazing gluten free grilled cheese on bread that they are very proud of! Also! Had my first crab cake and found their lemon aïoli delicious. They were more than accommodating and the owners are very knowledgeable about celiac. Extensive menu had to try a few things! Paired with a bold glass of red. I would come back to do it all again! I will say. Service was SLOW and I was legitimately forgotten about twice. Was unable to get a second glass of wine. Lunch. Took me 2 hours and I was starving. Be ready to wait.
Excellent experience. Clearly marked menu and the waitress went over what the gluten free modifications changed about each item.
There is a dedicated fryer, however the waitress mentioned that due to an error the day before it had been cross contaminated and needed to be cleaned before being gluten free again. Great knowledge and awareness.
And above all, delicious food!
Great experience! Restaurant is right down the street from public parking so it was easy to get to. A lot of the menu items were gluten free because the owner of the restaurant does not eat gluten. I was able to get French fries because they had a dedicated gluten free fryer. I would specify to your server that you need the gf fryer for your items because they may not automatically be made in that one.
I also had the quinoa salad with grilled chicken- it was delicious and a good sized portion!
Had an amazing dinner here tonight! I had the crab cakes and the Greek salad. Finished off with the cheesecake - this is a must get!! It was delicious! They also have a dedicated fryer. Very friendly wait staff and they said the owners also have a gluten allergy which is why they are so accommodating. Cute patio and they have live music on Wednesdays! We will be back!!
Cute spot in Big Bear Village. Got here early on Labor Day Weekend and they are out of gluten free buns and gluten free toast. Pancakes were are only option. Otherwise delicious.
The food is delicious! However they label a lot of things gluten free that are not. If your celiac be aware. The wings and fries are LOADED with gluten. We used our Nima sensor to check and they are not safe. The Quinoa & burgers tested good and where delicious. Don’t eat anything that goes in the fryer. And double check the menu-
Great helpful staff willing to talk about the different options. Was able to get a dairy free, gluten-free quesadilla which got a happy belly dance.
Food and service was beautiful! Local and Fresh with celiac/gluten knowledge and care. I enjoyed crab cakes made with almond flour and a burger with a gluten free bun. Our server was knowledgeable about cross contamination and pointed out the fries are in a shared fryer. I will definitely be back for brunch to try the gf pancakes and eggs Benedict on the crab cakes!!
