Before my Coeliac Disease diagnosis, I used to subscribe to Stir’s bread delivery service. When I rang to discuss my new dietary restrictions, the very helpful staff member informed me they offered gluten-free bread but that it was prepared and baked in their small bakery so there was a good chance of cross-contamination. A few weeks later, I was on the cafe side of the shop and noticed they were advertising gluten-free bread. I confirmed with the staff that the bread was made in the adjoining bakery. This is a prime example of the misuse of the term ‘gluten-free’ when they could say, ‘low-gluten.’ They also had some unwrapped gluten-free food in the same pastry case as the food containing gluten. In any case, the food here is nice and it’s a lovely place for a coffee but the food is not suitable for those with Coeliac Disease.
