Went for brunch. Let them know you have an allergy and a chef will come speak with you. Lots of options at the buffet. Omelet bar is safe - had a ham and cheese omelet. The chef will make Mickey waffles in the back and they also have chocolate and blueberry muffins. Everything was delicious!
Chef Alex came out and gave me a tour of the buffet. He pointed out what I could safely choose as it was prepared. He mentioned points of possible cc with creating omelets and such at that station. He said the carving station for meat was safe. Obviously, buffets are risky with hands and utensils on everything. I opted to get my order straight from the kitchen and he took my order personally. He mentioned they had gluten-free bagels and I ordered that, as well. I felt very safe with my omelet, fruit, muffin, and bagel. Though, the gluten-free muffin was not the best. All other items were so good! I was very impressed with the service and attention to detail.
SECOND UPDATE:
I had a chef come out as usual and requested everything be made in the back (I got sick the one time I ate dinner here and the chef refused to make me anything separately and told me to eat from the buffet). Mickey waffles, pancakes, bacon, omelette, and hashbrowns all tested gf on my NIMA, and I had no reaction. Always tastes great too!
UPDATE:
Another great brunch experience! The waiter and chef were super nice and both very knowledgeable. I had an omelet, pancake, and waffle and none of them made me sick and they all tested gf on my NIMA. I avoid the syrup because I believe that has made me a bit sick before.
*Also, DO NOT use the paper straws at Disneyland. The waiter told me they contain gluten paste.*
I’ve had two great brunch experiences with very kind chefs. However, when I went for dinner, the chef was very dismissive and I did end up getting a bit sick. She didn’t want to make food separately in the back since it was naturally gf. I did test the food and it came back as gf, but I am very sensitive and the NIMA sensor can’t guarantee an entire dish is gf.
I was nervous about eating here because it's a buffet but everything was great. We went to the character breakfast and the very friendly chef came out and gave me options he could make in the kitchen for me (I went with Mickey waffles, obviously) and then walked me through each item at the buffet and explained what was safe for me to eat and what wasn't. It was a great personal touch that made me feel well taken care of. Of course there was still a risk of cross-contact but I didn't have a reaction after.
We came to the Storytellers Cafe for dinner for our last night in Disneyland. We had reservations ahead of time and had mentioned celiac in our reservations. When we arrived, our server brought out a chef who walked through the buffet, told us all of what we could have, and brought special requests for us from the back. Great experience.
Went because of the reviews, regretted it. I should have done more research but this is a buffet style place at least at dinner time. The chef seemed annoyed when she came over to show what is “gluten friendly” and not. Paying $50 for a meal where a celiac can only eat either prime rib, turkey or risk it with salad if it hadn’t been touched by others yet was not worth it.
Personally, if you’re celiac looking for dinner: go elsewhere
I always come here for breakfast and have great experiences. There’s a chef who either has celiac or a family member with it who will personally take on all of your food! They’re so sweet, they even made shapes with my strawberries and brought out everything they had that was gf for me, muffins, pancakes, waffles, etc. it was incredible!
Tons of gf options. Chef will make gluten free waffles to order. In the past they’ve also brought out gf muffins on request. Great place for a celiac kid to be able to eat pretty much anything they could want.
MAKE A RESERVATION!!! Once we arrived i talked to my waiter about my celiac disease and he knew exactly what i could have and the chef came out to personally talk to me about what he can prepare. I got the mickey waffles, bacon, and the potato hash. All prepared by the chef and brought out by him as-well. My food came out with allergy sticks in it and the food was phenomenal!! I left stuffed and so happy to have normal breakfast food along with my family. Even better I had no reaction! Highly recommended!
We informed of a gluten allergy when making a reservation, and a chef came out and walked me through the whole buffet! It was awesome, I got to ask questions and was shown what’s for sure gf and what I should avoid due to possible cross contamination. Well over 2/3 of the buffet was available with options in every category. For salads, all of the dressings either have gluten or were possible to be cross contaminated so they’ll make a fresh gf salad if whatever I wanted. I got a Caesar And it came in a big bowl and tasted amazing. All of the meats were great. For desert they can bring ice cream or sorbet to the table. Best of all, I didn’t get sick! Highly recommended, for setting my mind at ease, answering all of my questions, and not glutening me.
Angel, the chef, came out to meet with us. He was very knowledgeable and made sure we felt safe. Both our children were diagnosed with Celiac in the Fall so this is our first time traveling and navigating restaurants. We don’t eat out at home. Thank you Disney for making our kids feel not so different. The GF waffles and pancakes were delicious!!!!
Ate here a couple of times on this stay. Restaraunt is now completely a buffet, no al a carte. I have gluten and dairy allergies and did fine. The one thing that I should mention is that the experience will fluctuate greatly on the staff/chef on duty. First time in on Tuesday I was basically told what you see is what you geton the buffet, and there are no substitutions from the bsck and nothing I can have for dessert. However, on a Saturday visit the chef was spectacular. She whipped me up stuff in the back that was great and safe to eat. They even brought me out sorbet for dessert. My advice us to be persistent and ask because it makes a whirl of difference.
Excellent staff. I asked about gluten free options and got a personal walk through of the buffet with the chef who identified for me what was naturally GF, what had the potential for CC and what was not GF. The chef prepared and delivered my GF Mickey pancakes and freshly baked chocolate muffin himself. Very happy with my experience in terms of GF eating. Quick note to beware of cost however as the buffet cost my partner and I $100 for lunch. If I had of known we were paying $50 each, we probably would have eaten elsewhere. I overheard others complain that it was $27 per child. If you don't mind paying extra, I would highly recommend!
Great options - Disney staff are very accommodating and knowledgeable! Breakfast: ask to speak to a chef to prepare a non cross-contaminated plate from the kitchen. Lunch/Dinner: ask for an allergy menu and look for the items marked 'For Gluten', meaning for people with a gluten allergy (or celiacs).
The options for GF were minimal and virtually none if you're also vegetarian. The chef came out to talk with me, which seemed like a good thing, except what was prepared was three separate steamed and unseasoned side dishes: peas, broccolini, and huge asparagus, with a pasta noodle in my broccolini. The server was defensive that I was not pleased with this vegetarian option. They had promised rice, which never arrived.
Cannot say enough positive things about this place. The only place in SoCal where I can get a home cooked American-style all you can eat breakfast, not get glutened, and get hugs from my childhood heroes ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Usually I feel so embarrassed or anxious at restaurants but here I feel both special and normal at the same time.
We had horrible service. Our table was ignored and the staff seemed to have a hard time understanding English. My chicken wasn't cooked all the way and the chef came out and didn't argue, he agreed it wasn't cooked and took it away. Never apologized, never offered to get me something else. I don't normally post reviews but this was an awful experience.
Excellent experience. The chef came out and talked with us for the supper decision and then again when dessert was ordered. They went out of their way to help with any and all questions we had about how the food was prepared. Will eat here again every chance we have.
This was an amazing dining experience! Their allergy-friendly menu not only lists which items are gluten free, but also which are free of dairy, egg and other common allergens. Our server was more than accommodating and even let me substitute a side so that the gluten free entrée I wanted could also be dairy free. I had the chicken (incredible), and they even brought out complimentary gluten free flat bred in place of the bread basket. They give you the option to talk to the chef, but our server was so knowledgable I never felt the need to. Love, love, love this place!
Had wonderful gluten free Mickey Mouse waffles here! The buffet was average but the waffles and character hugs were awesome! Felt like a little kid again. Although a bit on the pricey side, I would recommend it and would go back. Staff was knowledgeable and waffles came out with an allergy flag and huge slab of butter that was clean. I was also told to avoid the sausage.
This lovely, upscale cafe is located in Disney's Grand Californian hotel & spa, part of the Disneyland Resort. My family includes 2 gluten-intolerant members and one member with Celiac Disease, and the staff and chefs were very knowledgeable and accommodating. They have gluten-free pasta, bun, pizza crust, french fry and bread options, and they cook everything separately. When they bring specially cooked food and even butter out, they mark it with a small flag that says "allergy" to alert all to keep it separate. I had the cobb salad, while my sister had the tuna sandwich and my niece had rice noodle pasta. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. It's a little pricey but well worth it.
