I had a great experience at Summer House! This was my second time dining here and I ordered the chips and guacamole, the truffle fries, and the Cobb salad. The server assured me that most of the menu can be made gluten free with 2-3 exceptions! I was also assured that the fries and chips are cooked in a separate fryer and when the food arrived, all items were marked with an “allergy” marker. The food was delicious and the space is really beautiful, too!

I have had a pretty bad reaction here both times I have visited since being diagnosed with Celiac. Both times I have gotten the GF pizza. Very disappointing because there are so many good reviews!

They have a few gluten free menu options, including a gluten free pizza. They also have a case of baked treats at the front that include gf and vegan options.

Welcome to Chicago. Take a ride on the L and stop by this establishment. Excellent options for GF Food. My GF DF dish was yummy! Shout out to Ron our server. He provided us with outstanding service and made sure my dish came out perfect. There was a special allergy toothpick that sealed the deal for me. We also needed to be mindful of peanuts - Ron made everyone aware of our needs. Enjoy the vibe…the music and the ambiance

I’ve had good luck here! Menu isn’t labeled, but servers are knowledgeable when you ask questions. Their fryer for fries is dedicated gluten free. For their sandwiches, they offer gluten free bread. I also tried their GF chocolate chip cookie which was great! That is in the same display case as gluten containing ones, but in its own pedestal.

Good gf menu, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food comes with allergy stick. Menu no longer states gf, but most items can be made gf.
Bakery counter when you walk in has best the gf brownies.

I decided to try Summer House based on the FMGF reviews, even though the menu isn’t marked. While I did really enjoy my food, I was disappointed by the lack of safe options - my waiter confirmed with the chef that the fryer is NOT dedicated, so all of the fried items are not celiac safe, and he also warned me not to eat the gf pizza due to cc. I ended up trying the hamachi sashimi, Costa Mesa salad (no tortillas strips, per the chef), rigatoni alla vodka, and tenderloin (brussels sprouts instead of fries, again per the chef). It was all tasty and I feel fine today (although I don’t always get symptoms). I would consider this place safe and the food is good, but the selection isn’t great.

Practically the entire menu can be made gluten free. Very nice restaurant and great waiting staff who was very knowledgeable of gluten allergies. I ordered the margarita pizza with gf crust- the gf crust was so thin, I would not recommend it. My sister who also has celiac got the rigatoni ala vodka with gf pasta and it was excellent. Parmesan truffle fries were excellent. The lavender haze cocktail & gluten free chocolate chip cookie was great too.

I’ve been here twice in the last 2 months and staff was very accommodating and aware for severe gluten allergy/CD. The menu does not list gf items but almost everything on the lunch/dinner menu aside from 1-2 items can be made gf. I’d added a note to my OpenTable reservation that one member of the party has a severe gluten allergy/celiac disease and the hostess commented when we arrived that she’d be sure we were seated in the main dining room rather than the room with the pizza oven, just as an extra precaution. I have additional allergies and servers on both occasions quickly and happily checked ingredients and made modifications so that our whole party could eat safely. (And the fried chicken sandwich was amazingly good!) Looking forward to returning for brunch to try the famous gf cinnamon roll!

Great Brunch spot. Nearly everything on the menu is or can be made gluten free. Dishes came out with allergy flags.

We went for lunch on Saturday. It was very busy and a very crowded chaotic kitchen. I told them I have celiac disease and the staff seemed knowledgeable, I asked a lot of questions to ensure I was safe. They told me they had gluten free bread, not in a dedicated toaster, later he came back and told me it was in a dedicated toaster. Fries went in the fryer where no gluten items went in. So I thought it would be okay. Unfortunately I still got very sick after eating here.

Great food! Menu was not labeled GF- asked server who identified pizza crust, noodles, bread, and cookie all made GF. Fries in pan fryer. Truffle fries so good! All properly labeled when came out to table!

There was nothing marked gf on the menu so I asked - there was literally one thing on the menu, the meatballs - which cannot be made gf.
Plate came out with an allergy marker on the plate.

Updated Dec 2022: they no longer have a GF menu. Most everything on the menu can be made GF but… I still like having the menu. Tried the waffle fries and they were excellent.
Their fish tacos are the best thing I've ever eaten in my entire life no joke I would eat those tacos every second of every day for eternity. Their sauces and slaws are amazing, and my mom takes me there a lot because I love them so much. They have a very large gluten free menu, for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and it includes all kinds of dishes. They also have two gluten free cookies which rival the tacos in their culinary exquisiteness. They are kept in the same case as the normal cookies, however, so ask that they bring you one from the back to ensure no cross contamination. A wonderful restaurant to visit 10/10 would recommend!!!!!

GF options are marked. Good amount of options. Food came with an allergy stick when it arrived. We had the truffle fries and guacamole and chips for appetizers, and the chicken entree. Everything was delicious. Great ambiance, too.

Got very very sick even though all items were said to be gluten free and waiter was aware of my celiac diagnosis.

This place lifts your mood, it is so beautiful. It’s pricey, but you can feel yourself decompress as soon as you are seated. Decent-sized gf menu, we’ll executed and good service.

Great gluten-free options.. But I got sick before I had even left the restaurant. They messed up my order by not including the turkey on the sandwich (how does that even happen??) so they had to remake the sandwich. I do think this mix up probably led to cross contamination as they were trying to work quickly. Everyone was very nice, I would give it another try.
Another Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. As per usual for them, they are great with allergies and well labeled menu. Really solid food. Make sure to get reservations during the summer as the can fill up fast.

I used my Nima sensor On two dishes and even though both dishes came back positive for gluten I still rate my experience three stars purely because of how the staff handled the situation. Ultimately I didn’t eat because I didn’t feel like they could provide me with a safe meal. But the servers and chefs really tried and seemed genuinely upset that they couldn’t provide one. We even discussed them making changes in their kitchen to make a safe dining experience for their future celiac customers. So proceed with caution but perhaps in the future they might be safe for celiacs.

My daughter got glutened last night. We ordered a ton of different items so - not sure what got her.. tuna, guacamole and salmon.. She also ordered the Spring fling with Tito’s (maybe they didn’t use Tito’s).
Yes
They have GF pancakes but they were doughy and undercooked. Not good. The hash browns were hard on the outside (almost uncuttable) and mushy on the inside. The bacon was real exercise for the jaw.
Carmen our server was great! I explained Celiacs to her, she was unfamiliar; however, spoke to the kitchen and my Spinach and Kale Omelette passed my Nima test! I would feel safe eating here again!
Yes
This place is amazing, they have a 5 stop process for all of their celiac orders. The food is good and they have a large selection

One of the best salads I've ever eaten... and I'm pretty picky! They have tons of gluten-free options on there gluten free menu
They were fantastic! Huge gluten free menu with delicious brunch and lunch options. They were super diligent in accommodating my dairy allergy & celiac. I did not get sick! For an appetizer we got the Caramelized Brussels Sprouts (GF) and for my entree I got the Mexican Hashbrowns with scrambled eggs & a side of GF toast (they have a separate toaster) both orders came out with an ALLERGY pick and were ran out separately. I highly recommend this place to everyone - also, if you plan on going on the weekend I suggest making a reservation as it gets pretty packed!

Good gluten free menu, had fish tacos and they were good. The place is beautiful.

I love brunch here! They have a separate gluten free menu with avocado toast, and fries are made in a dedicated fryer!

Tons of options - better for brunch I believe. Eggs Benedict, French fries, etc. Gorgeous space and nice sunny atmosphere. Make sure to make a reservation, very long waits on the weekend.
Like everyone has said, the food is good and when you tell them you have celiac, they make up a special ticket. Last time I was there I had the guacamole and beef tacos. So good! Our server was very kind and helpful, and she even gave me a cookie to go. 4 stars instead of 5 because the prices are a little ridiculous.

Great food! As a Celiac, I haven't been able to have a California roll or French fries since my diagnosis. Well I had both (because the crab was real crab and they have a separate deep fryer) and had no reaction. They have an extensive gluten free menu and they even put an allergy pick in the gluten free dishes. Highly recommend any lettuce entertain you restaurants.
Yes
Waitress was very knowledgeable in gluten allergies. She explained to me that a special pink ticket needs to be created for a gluten allergy and it requires 2 managers to sign off on. Definitely reassuring!

The Lettuce Entertain You restaurants are always good with gluten free options. It was nice to have all the sandwich options with gluten free bread. The cookies were good too!

Dedicated fryer, need I say more? Brunch here, dine here, my sister and I have both enjoyed multiple meals here without reaction.
Yes
Be very careful when ordering at this restaurant and make sure you specifically tell them that you have a food allergy because apparently ordering off the gluten free menu isn't enough to let them know not to bring you gluten free food. I ordered from the GF menu even showed the waiter what I wanted from the menu and my food didn't come GF and had a bad reaction. I have ordered from other restaurants from GF menus and not had any issues but here I did so please be very careful!
Cookies!

Atmosphere was amazing. The menu had a lot of options. I didn't get a comfortable feeling w our server but I had a great meal and no reactions. Loved this place.
Like most Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants, they had a very nice GF menu. They fill out an allergen form for the chef.
