would give less than 1 star if possible! no gluten-free anything
They occasionally have GF baked goods but the employee putting them out used same tongs for gluten containing items. Soups and prepared salads (potato salad etc) marked if GF but no salad dressings were labeled GF.
What a find....having celiac, it is good to find a place that understands cross-contamination, has knowledgeable staff, well-labeled items...and fresh, warm lemon muffins that even my husband went back for seconds (and he's not celiac!) for. At first, with it being our first time, I took a spoonful of a salad with a non-gf dressing. Ronald, the Service Mgr, checked label and made me a fresh salad... great customer service... it was my error. We will definitely be back.
Very clear labeling for gf, vegetarian, and vegan! It is buffet style, but they are very clean and orderly. Since it is a buffet style place you can build your own meals, but they can't know if another customer has used the thongs on gluten foods. I always pick up things by hand when they do not have their own set of tongs, and choose from the back, depending on the food obviously. They staff are very accomodating if you need anything. So far I haven't had any issue here.
I love Sweet Tomatoes. I have had no issues eating at one all across the country. But this Sweet Tomatoes was the best to date (every salad, soup and bread was labeled Gluten Free, Vegetarian, etc.) And a big added perk, they offered Gluten free muffins. They were so good I hope I can find the recipe one day.
has a very good selection for gluten free items and also has some soups that are gluten free... now if they figured out how to make clam chowder with no gluten I would practically move in .. they need a couple meat items though... like optional chicken breasts or thighs
What a disappointment; they had nothing available that was gluten free, except salad and of course you take a risk eating from an open buffet. I spoke to a server, who didn't know what I was talking about and then the manager who said he might have a microwaveable cup of soup he could offer me. $18 for literally just plain salad for one adult and one kid. I can eat lettuce at home for less than $18. I told the manager I didn't think they should advertise that they are GF, or be on this map and he said they don't, which is ridiculous because I have a coupon in my purse advertising that they have a gluten free selection. sounds like the corporate office decided to jump of the GF bandwagon without providing training to restaurant staff.
Not enough GF items. Salad and usually one soup. On occasion they will have some awesome GF muffins but it's few and far between. I would love to see them expand their selection.
Always had items clearly marked and fair amount of selection.
I have always enjoyed Sweet Tomatoes, but my GE said that it's not worth the risk to try any buffets anymore because of the potential for cross-contamination by hapless customers (unless the place is 100% GF, obviously). I liked getting the coupons, which always made it worthwhile, and it was nice to have so many options that were so obviously healthier than other places like Piccadilly or wherever. I may give it a try again in another year or so, but until then I'll have to pass. :(
I used to enjoy Sweet Tomatoes and was thrilled to hear they label their gf foods! However, despite careful selecting I was very ill about four hours later. This was a real disappointment. Are they cross contaminating? I had labeled salad items, chili and the labeled gf muffins.
Staff is completely clueless. They had some things like soups labeled "gluten friendly" and I asked three employees whether that meant it had gluten or didn't (wasn't really clear because things that were clearly GF like veggies weren't labeled, one thing that looked like a pasta salad was) and no one knew. Which tells me that even if it was supposed to be gluten free I couldn't trust it. I ate lettuce.
Healthy buffet style restaurant. Not grimy like most buffets I think of. Everything is clearly marked GF, vegetarian and vegan. It is not a dedicated facility but I felt comfortable with the degree of awareness they seemed to have on dietary restrictions. Very affordable too!
Manager was very helpful in helping me determine what I could safely eat here. Really not enough to want to choose to go regularly, but good to know what's safe when with others who want to go there. Update (11-15) There are now signs saying whether or not items are "gluten friendly." I've enjoyed going fast more since this change. Still have the risk of cross contamination since it's a buffet, but I haven't gotten sick here and I'm super sensitive. I hope they bring back the coconut muffins and the avocado ranch dressing!
I went just as they opened for lunch to avoid cross contamination on the buffet line...there were many gluten free menu items and dressing clearly marked. They also had coconut mini muffins which were labeled gluten free, which I sampled. I did not get glutened on this visit.
The gluten-free muffins at this place range from really good to amazing. They are baked in the same area as the regular muffins so this isn't a safe choice for everyone. Using the tongs to pickup muffins is risky (since they could easily be used for gluten muffins by other guests) so using napkins to grab them is a better option. There are many gf salads, but usually only one soup is gf. There have been two at times, but it's not that common. Overall, nice option for salad, soup, gf muffins and potatoes for those who can tolerate a buffet service.
This is a mixed review. Where I go the severs will make a salad plate from closed food containers stored under the salad bar. They change gloves too. Some gf soup, chili, but workers repeatedly stir soups with a spatula, wipe it off, and then stir the next soup with the same spatula. After bringing this to the manager's attention again and again, the workers now take the soup to the back, and bring them back out stirred. Also, gluten free options, once listed online monthly, are listed too late (often half way through the month).
