I felt very safe, as soon as I said I need gluten Free, he said as long as you get any thing marked GF on menu, you are good. The girl in back clarified that they warm the corn tortillas on one warmer and the flour ones on another. After the rest of my party ordered, I asked them to mark mine, as I got corn they all got flour. The girl in back said, yours are done, I did it with the new gloves first for you.
Great experience, will be there again, wish I would have tried this place sooner.
Not many places the gf person can get the specials with no up charge.
Staff had absolutely zero knowledge about gluten safety. When I informed them I have a severe gluten allergy, which is what I always say because most people don't know what celiac is, the cashier just said uhhhh it has rice.... can you eat tortilla chips? I should have turned around and left right then but it was after a very long day, I was tired and in a hurry and it was late, everything else closed etc so I rolled the dice and got the steak nachos since the menu designates a bunch of items as gf and.. lo and behold... I'm now extremely sick from gluten poisoning and get to spend the entire rest of my vacation in pure agony. Avoid this place like the plague.
Great place! We ate here twice while on vacation and I didn’t get sick once! They have their menu items clearly marked for what is gluten free. They asked for me to order last when I said I had a gluten allergy so that they could make sure to switch gloves. They work really hard to get it right.
Beware - there are some menu items that are gluten free but not necessarily celiac safe. Their chips are fried in a shared fryer so the nachos aren’t safe.
Told the staff I had a gluten allergy before ordering food and they immediately turned around and told the staff to change their gloves which made me feel extra safe. GF labels on the menu and the staff if very knowledgeable about gluten. I had chicken tacos with corn tortillas as they come. Delicious, filling, and no reaction afterwards which was great! Would definitely return if I am back in the area in the future
As soon as I said I had an allergy, they offered a glove change and ensured there was no cross contamination. I got a ground beef rice bowl and it was delicious. I will be back. Also, did you know power-aid can help with heat exhaustion? They have all the flavors in their soda machine.
The website was very transparent about what items had cross contamination and what items were gluten free. I ended up making my own kind of bowl by ordering gluten free sides and mixing them together in a bowl. It was very delicious and there were tons of sides I could’ve added. I ended up with shredded chicken, sour cream, beans, rice and cheese. All the items are gluten free and the staff who took my order knew exactly what I was talking about.
I asked what menu items could be gluten free. They made blacked fish special for my fish tacos which are usually beer battered. Changed there gloves with out me having to ask. There is no special area so cross contamination could happen but they tried to ensure that didn't happen. I didn't get sick. 🙂
Ordered thru uber eats. Yummy. Not celiac- dont react to cross contamination
Im confused about the good reviews. Its “gluten free” but not safe at all? The chips are fried in shared fryer with breaded fish, the corn tortillas are pressed and heated on same area as flour. Queso not GF. Hard corn are safe but thats it. Idk how much I would trust anything. The corn elote is also in the deep fryer sadly
It's Mexican takeout, although you can eat there. The food is a step from fast food, there are some healthier choices, and they nail gluten free. If you're in Sunset Beach, this is a go- to for an inexpensive, quick, friendly meal. They have their own parking lot, which is important because parking in the area is expensive and hard to find.
Gluten free and dairy free items are marked on the regular menu. The hard chicken tacos with no cheese were fire 🔥
Menu is clearly marked with what's gluten-free and what's not. Tacos, tostadas, nachos are all gluten-free, plus there are several different meats to choose from. Rice is gluten-free as well, and the various toppings and salsas are. I'm not sure if they're celiac friendly, because I'm not celiac, however most cross-contamination does affect me, and I did not get a migraine. Pretty tasty for a pretty good price. The treasure Island location is a storefront and not a food truck.
