I loved that there are so many gluten free options. It made me feel like my allergy wasn’t limiting which I very much appreciate. We got the Tom kha, masa man curry, and pad see ew. The pad see ew was my favorite. I also left with a few baked items from their bakery (also so many GF options!!) I didn’t get sick and can’t wait to go back. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Finally after 1 year diagnosed CD I was able to have GF Thai food. Most of the menu is GF. They do not have a dedicated fryer but their soy sauce is made in house GF and the noodles in my dish was GF. A bonus, bakery in the same restaurant that all of their items are GF. Highly recommend 👌
There are quite a few items that are NOT gluten free. In fact, that is how the menu is set up, by labeling everything that is NOT gluten free. I was disappointed by the lack of dedicated fryer, even though they use gluten free flour for most of their fried items. I also wish you could talk to a server about the kitchen prep, because when you sit in the cafe you just order online. But I really enjoyed the coconut soup they had, plus they have an all gluten free bakery, plus Gati ice cream!
This is my go-to for cake! They have a huge variety of baked goods and a dedicated kitchen for baking. Try the sour cream coffee cake, mind-blowingly good! (Owner is celiac. It’s also a great place for Thai food, as the name suggests. ) Almost everything is GF, but fryer is not.
I have celiac, and I’ve never gotten sick here. The staff knows how to specify on each order that you have a gluten allergy, and the menu clearly shows what is gluten free, and isn’t cooked in the same pans as gluten stuff. The items that are marked “cooked in same area as gluten food” I would avoid, but about 1/3 the menu is GF and safe for celiacs, if you tell staff you have an allergy!
NOT dedicated GF as advertised on menu. We opted out of eating here because no one came to our table to answer questions. It seems you have to order from your phone. Since this was our first time, we were unaware and nobody explained. We had questions about GF items and could not get them answered.
Delicious food! Menu is clearly labeled with gluten containing items. We ordered the Pad Thai with chicken, Pad Sea Ew with shrimp, Slow Cooked Pork Roast on Five Spices, Tom Kha soup, peanut butter fudge pie, mango lime ice cream on sticky rice, and cake batter ice cream on sticky rice.
2023 Update:
No change, this place is one of my go-to places in Austin!
2021 Update:
I get the Chicken Pad Thai from here multiple times a month and have never had an issue. Pretty expensive, but that's because they pay their employees a living wage, which I also want to support.
2019 Review:
I went here this weekend for the first time and didn't have any issues after eating the chicken Pad Thai. Even when I asked the waiter a couple of 'gotcha' questions, he responded with all the right answers. (they use GF soy sauce, the wok never has gluten noodles in it, etc)
Almost got glutened here. The menu is marked but is confusing. All tofu here is fried in a shared fryer. This is only marked on the fried tofu appetizer but is not marked elsewhere on the menu where tofu is presented as a protein option. A little disappointed that a place with great reviews almost did me dirty but it all worked out. The green curry has excellent flavor as does the cheesecake! I would eat here again but would probably avoid protein altogether.
The menu is almost entirely gluten free, and restaurant is extremely understanding of celiac disease and other food allergies. I’ve been eating here regularly for the past 5 years and have never been glutened. The menu marks “contains gluten” instead of gluten free, as there’s so little that has gluten. The food is really good quality, and the restaurant pays employees a fair wage and benefits. Overall, a great experience, and excellent dessert options. Highly recommend their bakery called Gati, which is 100% GF
Did takeout from Thai Fresh on a busy Friday night. Tried the side salad with peanut dressing and the pad Thai. The salad was great and tasty - loved the dressing that they added. The pad Thai was ok - it reminded me more of a fried rice flavor than a pad Thai flavor. Both were safe and I had no reaction, but would try something different next time.
Thai Fresh is fantastic & is one of our favorite places to eat. We can order just about anything on the menu and have literally never had a bad or lackluster meal here
A true neighborhood treasure: simple, heartfelt & consistently good. It’s not a fancy place, but a comfortable one. Food looks like it costs more, but that’s due to the owners’ no-tip policy, which ensures a guaranteed living wage to their employees.
I came for the Gluten Free Chicken and Waffles but they use a shared frier so no GF Chicken & Waffles for me. Almost everything else on the menu was pork, so I had to order something without sauce as if I'm some kind of pariah like at every other restaurant. I really thought that a Celiac owner would understand how to accomodate celiacs. The replacement meal was really good, chicken rice with sweet & sour sauce & GF sounds sauce. I'm so dissappointed about the chicken & waffles that I won't be back. Also, the bathroom is yucky and the sugar had a strong smell of feet.
Staff was very knowledgeable about gluten free and know about cross contamination. We’ve been twice and gotten the pad see ew and pad ka prow to go with no issues. As a bonus they have an attached GF bakery with some of the best dairy free ice cream I’ve ever had and GF cones! We will definitely be regulars here.
Weekend brunch was a strange experience. When we arrived, they seemed irritated that we were there. Then, when I asked about French press coffee, the waitress silently handed me the menu. I saw “drip coffee” listed and asked if they had French Press. She said it was all the same, which really rubbed me the wrong way. I asked about the gluten free waffle, and she said that the oil was used for everything but because we were the first customers, it was probably safe because the oil was new. It took forever to get our food and when we got it, it was fried to a crisp. Not a positive experience for us. Food was ok.
The gluten free fried chicken and waffles during Sunday brunch is a total MUST!
The food was so tasty and waitress was so helpful. All of our meals were so flavorful! A bonus is the menu clearly indicates which items are GF. The desserts were yummy - kids loved the s’mores cake.
