The Coconut Tree

Ate at the coconut tree for the first time. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about coeliac. They confirmed they would inform the chef and treat it like an allergy, and cross contamination measures were followed.

Probably about 3/4 of the menu is available gluten free so there's a wide selection. I had an egg hopper, sticky rice, the fat sister (pumpkin curry) and spicy black pork. All very tasty, I think the hopper was my favourite and is a must try.

If you're trying to accommodate multiple dietary requirements it's also worth noting they have a lot of vegan/veggie dishes which are also available gluten free.

As an added bonus, they do great cocktails!

Unfortunately I think I got glutened here. 🙁 Everything was very clearly marked and ordered a mixture of dishes both gf and non-gf across 6 people. Was told explicitly by the server that anything in black dishes was gluten free, double checked as the first few dishes came out and waited for the black dishes to arrive before I tucked into my dishes. One of the black dishes contained flatbreads (yay, somewhere that actually does gf flatbreads I thought) so happily tucked in. It was only later when my tummy started later in the night that I went back to check the online menu and I saw the flatbreads did not state gf next to them. I’m unsure of whether this was down to the chef or the server and yes I could’ve double checked however given that I had already confirmed multiple times that black dishes were gf I thought they were safe - more fool me.

Overall the food was delicious though with plenty of options labelled as GF.

Would go back as the flavours were spectacular and given all of the other positive reviews but will definitely be checking as every single item arrives.

Sort of Sri Lankan tapas. We had a hard time choosing what to eat then to decide what our favourite dish was.
