Review

This restaurant is advertised as providing gluten free options, but I assure you it is not gluten free friendly. If you have a wheat allergy or are Celiac, DO NOT VISIT THIS RESTAURANT.

Upon arrival, I immediately requested a GF menu from the server and alerted him to my wheat allergy. The server stated there was not a GF menu but many items on the menu could be modified to be GF. He would not elaborate or identify specific dishes, but just left it as the chef would be accommodating.

When I chose the Maine Lobster Tail dish, the server quickly said it could not be made GF due to the pasta. I then requested for the pasta to be left off the plate, and the food server again refused to adjust the plate as "the chef will not like the flavor profile to change."

Therefore, I asked what could be GF, and the server identified 3 items. Why couldn't he have just identified these 3 to choose from initially?! I chose the wild mushroom and polenta dish, and I again verified that it would be GF due to an allergy. The server assured me all ingredients were GF, but I felt like he did not understand the importance of telling the kitchen/chef of the allergy as to prevent cross contamination.

When the meal came to the table, I immediately became flushed in the face as I took my second bite. By the time I had finished my meal, my throat was beginning to swell, and I was coughing due to my airway starting to constrict. In addition, my heart rate increased and my tongue began to swell and become painful.

I took 2 Benedryl, which stopped the reaction and began to reverse it, and I was able to avoid using my Epi Pen. When I got home, I had to take a 3rd Benedryl to stop the chest pains. All in all, I probably should have used my Epi Pen, but that's a can of worms I didn't want to open.

Long story short, I was extremely offended at the server's arrogance and lack of empathy and knowledge of food allergies.

Tips

Celiac

Looking forward to going here on our upcoming trip to Santa Fe. From what I’ve read online the Chef’s daughter has Celiac, so he is happy to accommodate a GF diet. I’ve read they also have gluten free fried chicken!
