I ordered a cheeseburger with added bacon and a gluten free bun with regular fries, and let me tell you, it was amazing! The gf burger bun was perfect. It had a nice crispy edge. The bun had a nice bite to it and held together until the last bite. The fries were yummy and crispy.
We sat inside where it was nice and cool. The lighting was dim, so my pictures aren't that great, but I actually enjoyed the dimness. There was a playground outside and seating with fans. Dogs welcome, too!
I highly recommend! Worth every penny. Customer service was great too.
So good! The burgers, sweet potato fries and nachos make this a must order whenever I am in town!
I LOVE The Cove! I have celiac and have never gotten sick. It is the best place for burgers and safe fries in S.A. and they have GF beer most times. The only problem I ever have is deciding what I want because there are so many amazing options and that is almost never a problem. 🥰
Oh, this was just the best! On a 105 degree evening we sat outside under the misters and I had a burger. And fries!!! Holy smokes, it can be done! The burger bun was very good, in that it tasted great and remained intact for the duration of my meal. The fries were to die for and I was able to enjoy a fantastic meal with no concerns.
The free soda refills were a bonus.
If you’re in the area, check out The Cove. It doesn’t look like much as it also runs a laundromat and a car wash - but - step inside and you’re in celiac heaven.
CELIACS…. REJOICE! You have found it. You have found the best gluten free burger of all time… like sonic and whataburger had a thick baby.. juicy, cheesy, and a perfect amount of condiments… and YES you can have the fries… and I’d probably talk about them more if the burger wasn’t so good… seriously… just stop reading and go.
But ALSO dont sleep on the nachos cause they were some of the best I’ve had too.
Run don’t walk. I’d take a picture but we finished too fast.
Food is so incredibly good. Celiac safe and the staff are very aware of how to appropriately prepare celiac food. All their fries are naturally gluten free (they have a gluten free frier) and if you let them know it’s for celiac they will go a step further and change their gloves. The gluten free brownie is insanely good. An absolute must.
I usually don't go to a burger joint when I travel. I can get that where I live. I chose this place because it had so many good reviews, and I am going to add to that. I was sorry I didn't get in early enough to hear the music. This place had an amazing out door patio. It even has a playground for your kids. I had the Blue Bison Burger and Sweet potato fries. YUMMMY. I felt very confident with what I ate. I had my burger naked because I am just not a fan of GF bread. This place has a cool history. It still operates a laundromat and a car wash.
I had a vegan cheese burger gluten-free bun… it was fantastic… and had more options to pick from..
Best burger and fries! And serves red bridge. Love this place so much and they have a celiac button when you order.
Got seafood platter. 1 fish taco, 1 shrimp taco, and spinach salad ($12). Very good but pricey for small tacos. Shrimp and Fish tacos are $4.50 each. A little high fir small tacos.
I have eaten here more times than I can count and NEVER had a reaction. Their fish tacos are amazing and they cook their sweet potato fries in a dedicated fryer- delish. Great family atmosphere with outdoor dining & play place for the kids. Couldn’t recommend The Cove more!
We eat here about once a week. I am celiac and it is nice to find a place where I can eat regularly without fear. My go to is the Lisa special, fish tacos and a side salad, and I add sweet potato fries. They have the best sweet potato fries, don’t forget to ask for extra Sirachu mayo. I also like their burger, nachos, and chicken sandwich.
This is my first review because OH MY GOODNESS. Don’t be fooled by the car wash and laundromat...this is the best gluten free burger and fries I’ve ever had!! No issues at all, and it was delicious!
We ate here twice during our stay in San Antonio and both times the food was amazing! Got the Lisa Special, sweet potato fries, and Super Nachos. Food is fresh, local, and outstanding!!! Servers are knowledgeable about celiac, GF and cross contamination. Best place we’ve eaten so far in SA.
I live close by and have been coming here for 7 years. Always delicious and have never had a reaction. The gf bun is soft and stays together perfectly. I also love the sweet potato fries. Very highly recommend!
I had the good a burger with bison. The burger was cooked to perfection at a medium temp, melted in my mouth. The GF bun was incredible, not the Udi's that every other place uses, which ALWAYS crumbles, not sure if they make their own, but it was awesome. GF beer? Yes please, Redbridge, omission and I tried the Stone IPA it was awesome. When I was ordering the gal taking my order asked if I am celiac which told me they understand and take special precautions. I cannot say enough about this place and cannot wait to go back
Son has celiac and is extremely sensitive. We have been over a dozen times with zero issues.
This place makes the best burgers!!!! They have a lot of main entree options and dessert too. Cool atmosphere and a great place to just relax and hang out, have a few drinks. There is a play area for kids and dogs are welcome too. My family and I ate there 3 times during our week long stay in San Antonio.
We ordered:
Gluten free real burger with all the fixings
Gluten free kids burger
Sweet potato fries
Chips and salsa
Chocolate coconut soft serve
Delicious burgers and real fries (both regular and sweet potatoes). Also kid and dog friendly! Parking is crazy and it’s tucked behind a car wash and coin op laundry but is a bigger operation than it appears from the outside. Let them know you’re celiac because they said it makes a difference in their preparations.
Great celiac friendly options. My son is extremely sensitive and he’s never had a reaction. This is a place we frequently visit.
Any place that has gluten free twinkies is worth stopping at in my opinion. It was a cold night when we stopped in and my girls were ecstatic to see they had gluten free buns and desserts. They had a live band playing inside were the bar that sells wine and beer is located and we would have sat in there but saw the playground and the heating lamps over the picnic tables and opted for that so the kids could play while we still enjoyed the music. They also have an incredible beer selection on tap over past the play ground in what looks like a food truck. This place has a great atmosphere and so much to do for all ages. They even have a coin laundry mat just in case you want to drink and eat while you wash. Give it a try. The burgers were awesome.
The best place for a burger in San Antonio!! They have the best buns ever! Staff was knowledgeable and asked if it was preference or allergy. They even had a couple gluten free beers at the bar inside. My husband had the burger with an egg on it and I had the bison and blue burger. Both paired with Omission.. Mmmm... Atmosphere was great. They have a playground outside for the kids to play while waiting on food(or parents to finish enjoying their beer)
Menu is very clearly marked with gluten free options. I was a little nervous when I saw the kitchen, looked a little too "greasy spoon" so I was wary of cross contamination. I was pleasantly surprised though! Fries have a dedicated fryer, and my burger with gluten free bun was very good! If you want a good, greasy burger (which you've got to do every once in awhile), this is a good place to stop.
very kid friendly. they have a play ground! food was delicious. we got a vinkie for dessert (gluten free, vegan twinkie). so much fun and delicious.
Such a neat place with great outdoor area for kids and pets. Staff easily explained which items were GF. The food was good & the GF hamburger bun was pretty decent.
Cross contamination! If you just want to pay $2.25 for a gf bun, this place is probably great. If you have celiac, stay away. Wheat buns on top of fryers, same hands/gloves touching all food in an assembly line, grabbing each other's butts, eating off the plates they're preparing, one tiny grill for all food... you can wait in line for 30 min like we did, or just walk to the front and take a look at the kitchen yourself. I really wanted to like it because it's a cool atmosphere, but was too afraid to even eat there after seeing the mess of a kitchen. I'm not even sure how they pass health inspection to be honest.
