The Driftwood Motel Restaurant & Sports Bar

They used to be great, but no longer. They seem to have all new staff who aren’t very friendly. Their food is amazing but not celiac safe. I had the smothered chicken and I’ve been suffering all night. Don’t risk it if you’re sensitive!

I do NOT recommend this place. I saw reviews here saying there were gf fries and a dedicated frier so I thought they'd have some options. The woman working the takeout desk was extremely rude and when I asked about gluten free seemed happy to tell me she knew nothing about gf. I mentioned this site and these reviews and she acted like I was an idiot and said there has never been a dedicated fryer. Other employees knew next to nothing about gf either. Between the clear lack of knowledge about gf and the terribly rude employee at the take out counter, I totally recommend avoiding this place completely and just heading to Mackinac City where there are restaurants with multiple gf options with employees who also actually care about helping.

We had a burger and the smoked whitefish salad without buns. It was a good meal. Not much GF on menu, but a variety of things could be made without bread. They have a separate fryer for fries, so they are GF. The waitress we had seemed a bit gruff, but it was the lunch hour, and she didn’t have much time to chat.

The menu does not mention gluten free but our server was very knowledgeable (I wish I wasn't drawing a blank on her name right now!) and gave me a wide variety of good options. The fries are cooked in a dedicated fryer. Baked potatoes are available everyday. The chili is also gluten free. I had a Red Bridge beer. Then my husband and I shared the mussel appetizer which was delicious. I completed my meal with chili cheese fries which aren't listed on the menu but were graciously prepared for me. I had no ill effects and look forward to going back next time we are in St ignace.
