I recently bought a Nima gluten sensor and returned to this cafe, which seemed celiac safe last time I tried it.
Unfortunately, my first test here reported "gluten found."
I tested an "egg in a mug" (with bacon and eggs), dry gf toast, and a caramel steamer. All of this was supposed to be gluten free. (No butter bc the butter is shared!)
The server even double checked that the caramel was gluten free before I ordered it. And they supposedly have dedicated gf space.
I'm totally unsure where the gluten in my meal came from and it didn't seem worth it to reorder and retest. I don't think I'll be returning (and if I do, I will definitely retest using the Nima).
(They did not charge me for my returned meal. I made the mistake of drinking the steamer before the test finished running and had a very minor reaction. I won't do that again.
We were fairly surprised that after showing the server the gluten found result, and returning my meal, no one came over to discuss the results and figure out what happened. That's part of why I don't think I'll go back. Do they really care about celiacs? It seemed like they did, at least this time.)
What a great find! The coffee menu alone is worth the trip, but add on the GF options and it's a home run. I had the GF soup and sammi-creamy tomato rice and grilled cheese. They have a separate toaster and utensils for the GF items. Staff was knowledgable and friendly. We will definitely be back!
Very cute & cozy spot! Love the menu: huge variety of coffees, various food & dessert menu. Had the tomato soup & grilled cheese (GF!). Yum!
In response to the reviewer above, they are not wheat crackers, they are definitely GF.
Food is good, but service is super slow, even tho we were there after 1pm on a weekday with a handful of tables busy. Tables not bussed. We waited 20 minutes just to be greeted. We were traveling through and wanted something quick.
Good gluten free roll and soup, but they included WHEAT crackers with a gluten free meal. Caveat emptor, staff needs to be trained before someone gets sick.
