Server was extra-careful and double-checked things for me. Do watch out that not all ingredients are listed on the menu. I was able to have a fantastic swordfish salade nicoise (minus the potatoes from the shared fryer), and an excellent hazelnut chocolate mousse. Beautiful bayside patio.
The waiter was very knowledgeable food safety for celiac and knew exactly what was gf or not. I had the swordfish with a side of broccolini and plain rice with a side of lemon sauce. Delightful meal overlooking the Sam Diego Bay. I had no symptoms after eating here. I would go back again!
Ate here for lunch. Nothing on the menu is labeled gf. None of the potatoes are gf. I got a piece of grilled fish and vegetables. Food was good but expensive It’s in a mostly tourist area and the offerings and service reflected an I don’t care attitude. I didn’t get sick but I wouldn’t go back.
Lovely place to grab lunch. We were seated by the window that we could look over the bay and enjoy the view and all the activity on the water. Menu was not marketed GF, but our waiter was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions throughly. My husband and I split the prawn cocktail and I had the King Louie salad. All of the fish and crab were fresh and tasted delicious. Even though the two items I ordered were already GF, our server made note on every item ordered I was celiac which was greatly appreciated. Highly recommend!
Amazing food & beautiful scenery! Delicious halibut w/ chimichurri & carrots. Our waiter was willing to check on ingredients & very patient/kind with us. Highly recommend!
Our waiter Scott, was awesome! He was very familiar with celiac and made sure my daughter was taken care of. He checked on all the ingredients. She ended up with the fish curry dish. For dessert, he brought her a special plate of fruit so she wouldn’t feel left out from the rest of the family who had gluten desserts.
GF options: veggie sides (carrots, Brussels sprouts, white rice) plus fish/meats (specify cooking instructions). Our server was able to list GF sides without any hesitation and asked if there were any cooking instructions. Food was good, not excellent, but we felt safe and taken care of the whole time; beautiful waterfront setting, too!
Our celiac kid ordered the NY steak with a side of white rice. No reaction that we can tell! One it’s just not very appropriate, but it’s fine
Side note: The Fish Market is casual, seated dining. Upstairs is The Top Market and it is fine dining. Downstairs did not require a reservation, we had no problem getting a table quickly (went on a Monday night).
My favorite place to go, never feel sick afterwords! I also have a dairy allergy and I always get ceviche, tacos with just black pepper for seasoning, and oysters 😊
Not celiac, so your experience may be different. Waitress was knowledgeable, all hot market catches were good with cauliflower, green beans, or rice. Also had the baby kale salad to start. All was very very delicious and fresh! Make a reservation and confirm it as soon as possible. Got a seat outside on the water and it was spectacular. Did not get sick, but CC usually isn’t an issue for me.
While there is no GF menu and items are not marked on the menu either, we also had a very knowledgeable server who steered me toward gluten free items and we discussed preparation in a separate pan. I had rockfish with cauliflower and green beans. I do wish they wouldn’t put pasta in the rice, or that they would offer a baked potato. The chocolate mousse I had for dessert was amazing!
Hostess upon sitting us stated they did not offer anything gluten free however before walking out asked the waitress if there was any gluten free options. She was extremely helpful and listed all the gluten free options on the menu. There was many choices that where gluten free or could be made gluten free. No gluten free menu available
Their gluten free menu has not been updated since they came out with their “Covid menu”, but the server was able to answer any questions about the menu. He knew every side item that was gluten free. The only true gf side right now is coleslaw, but they happily steamed some Brussels sprouts for me. He also said the carrots could be steamed safely, as they steam many vegetables often for allergy reasons. The creme brûlée was AMAZING!!
The server provided a wheat free menu and seemed knowledgeable about gluten free eating. I stayed away from menu items which needed to be modified to remove gluten containing items like salads and soup and instead I had grilled salmon and vegetables. Food was pretty good and I was not sick, so no cross-contamination.
Asked the hostess for a gluten free menu. She looked at me like I had three heads and gave the regular menu that had no indications marking gf. Walked back out.
I was happy to find out that The Fish Market has several naturally gluten free menu items. After I explained that I have Celiac Disease along with other food allergies, the waiter we had made me feel very comfortable about eating with my family. Our waiter kindly went over the steps their kitchen takes to insure how food is properly prepared to avoid any cross contamination. It's always nice when you go out to eat with friends or family and not feel worried about getting sick or glutened. I greatly value that the staff and kitchen at The Fish Market are well trained and understand the importance of taking food allergies and medical diet restrictions seriously. The atmosphere at the restaurant was great, the food was delicious, and I can't wait to go back again!
