The Grand Cafe, Coffee & Burger

I would not recommend this restaurant!! Visited after reading the reviews on find me Gluten Free but our experience was far from good. After asking if the fries were gluten free we were told "I don't know" (1st red flag) no offer to check. We continued to order x1 Gluten Free burger and X1 normal burger with fries. When the food came and was placed down the waitress said the burger with the fries on the same plate (they were in a seperate container) was Gluten Free (massive red flag). After checking with the waitress, she said the one with the fries on was definitely Gluten Free and said the chef thinks the fries are Gluten Free but you can check the internet (another red flag). For us, this caused too much uncertainty so, the Gluten Free burger did not get eaten. The waitress came over to ask why the Gluten Free burger hadn't been eaten and I explained it could make us very unwell if we ate Gluten to which she sighed and took the plate away before complaining to the the chef that we wouldn't eat the food. Not the best customer service and no apology, though she did offer to get us a fresh burger. But by then we didn't want to eat there. Yes the chips were in a seperate container and "might" be Gluten Free however, for us, with the red flags/uncertainty, it just wasn't worth taking the risk and becoming poorly.

We had breakfast here most mornings. The staff were really friendly and had no problem doing gluten free. I had scrambled egg with bacon and gluten free toast a few mornings and got an omelette one morning. They got the chef to come out to me the first morning to explain the steps she would take to avoid cross contamination. Would definitely recommend!

How would you rate the taste and quality of the gluten-free food you tried?

— Excellent

They gluten free burgers and bread available. I had ordered the pulled pork sandwich but chef came to my table to say the sauce was bought in and had traces of gluten. He suggested the cooked chicken sandwich instead with salad as definitely no gluten. It was lovely and was I able have the chips as well.

Staff is super friendly. Had the burger. Nice food, even the fries are prepared in a separate fryer. They do everything to avoid cross contamination (my partner has an allergy for sesam and nuts). Owner is Dutch, staff speaks German, English and Spanish to. Food was very good!
