Food was OK, not great. Menu designated chips (fries) with malt vinegar as gluten free. I thought there was some new gluten free malt vinegar available that I wasn't aware of.
It was not, it was normal not gf malt vinegar. The GF designation is upsetting for people that don't know better.
I have celiac and my experience here was great. Fun place, cute atmosphere. Our server was wonderful. There was no gluten free menu or even items noted as gluten free on the menu. Except an appetizer with cauliflower bread. But, our server took the time to check on everything and made great suggestions. My daughter also has a severe milk allergy. Our server was energetic and went out of her way to make sure the chef knew about our dietary needs. I had no reaction. Loved the salmon. This place is small, and can get really busy. I would recommend going as early as you can, so easier to take time to share your needs with the staff. Will go again.
Staff was knowledgeable about Celiac, but didn’t offer many options for dinner. More than $30 later, I ended up with a chicken salad and a cider. The chicken was dry and the portion was small. They gave my dog some old looking water and the dog next to us got a fresh bowl. I’m hoping she doesn’t get sick from the water. I kept reading about this place, which may have given me false expectations. Needless to say, I’m not that impressed.
The chef's sister has Celiac. He came out and sat down with me and went through the menu. Even though they have "gluten friendly" items marked, they aren't necessarily celiac safe--but there are things that are, and he will work with you to order a safe and wonderful meal. I've been here a few times now, and the wait staff are fun and friendly, the drinks are delicious, and the food is great. Happy to have them in Williamsburg!
