My daughter and I visited this restaurant this past Friday (April 8th). I flew in from NH to meet my daughter in DC because she about to take the most important test of her life (MCAT ..medical school entrance exam) the next morning. She has celiac disease so I researched places that I believed to be safe according to website information and advertised signs claiming that they are 100% Gluten Free. My daughter ordered a bowl with the quinoa base. After eating several bites she noticed other grains in the quinoa. We asked the restaurant worker what these were and they said Job’s tears. I googled and researched images of it and it looks very similar to barley. Job’s tears are gluten free but are round, these were oval and exactly like barley. The worker called the manager who then contacted the owner in NYC to find out that it was indeed barley and told us it was a miscommunication and they were sorry! We couldn’t believe it!! My daughter had about 5 pieces of barley!! That’s a lot of gluten for someone with celiac disease. This establishment was so dishonest! We were so upset and I specifically sought out a place that was all gluten free so there wouldn’t be any issues before her exam. Sadly she felt sick during her test, visiting the bathroom several times. Please ask questions if you visit this place!! Never again!!
