After reading the poor review on here, I decided to update and elaborate on my review. I have celiac and was a server at the Mulefoot off and on for 3 years. It is a very safe place to eat. Everything is made from scratch and locally sourced. The chefs raise the pork on their family farm. Hand Butcher all of their meat that they serve at their ownbutcher shop. They do not have a designated gf work space but they are carful. I ate there every single shift I worked and never ever had an issue. But most menu items needed to be modified for me. Most of the time it was just substituting the starch. I think where the person with the bad review came into trouble was the dairy. They use a lot of butter in their cooking. But I had them cook my stuff in lard instead. They do not use processed garbage oils which I think is a huge plus! Also I think that the bad reviewers expectation was off and possibly a picky eater. There menu is smaller and changes often depending on the fresh ingredients coming in. But some of my favorites were the duck, filet, trout, and of course the amazing pork cuts of the day. I would just order my veggies cooked in lard and add extra vegg to make up for no starch or get a gluten free starch or potato when available. The stars on the menu indicate that the dish can be modified for certain allergy’s. Also the server may be newer and not fully aware of what the chef is able to do. If you are catching that vibe just request to speak to the chef personally, they are very happy and willing to come over to make sure you have the best experience possible.

This restaurant is still the best quality food I have ever eaten in my life!

my husband called ahead of time to ask about a gluten free menu and dairy free. We were told it was no issie and they would adjust anything. When we arrived, hostess said the chef was aware of my dietary needs. Well, as a perused the menu and asked our waitress about what I could have.. It basically was a "Im sorry thats not possible..and No No." So I end up with a Salad with 5 shrimp on top with a small amount of bacon crumble. Terrible considering it was $23. I was still hungry when we left. :( I highly dont recommend it.. They ruined our 1st Anniversary dinner.

Outstanding meal and service (thanks Luke!). Unlike anything you'll find in Michigan. Recommend eating it as presented and not modifying the meal. The chef knows how to combine favors. We had four first courses and they were all good but the duck confit was the favorite. Had two filet mignons that were amazing grass fed steaks. The guys had the two specials of the day, lake trout and a lamb pork stew and loved them. We finished with a flourless chocolate cake made with bacon fat. Yum! Everything was gluten free. There are items on the menu that are not gluten free but you can tell on the menu. I am not celiac but still get sick from gluten and did not get sick. It was awesome to have so many choices.
