I was going to eat at the old salt with friends and choose not to because while the offer what they consider gluten free they do not take any steps to ensure that it stays gluten free in the kitchen. They do cross contaminate and therefore they do not have any food in the kitchen that is free of gluten

Extensive separate gf menu. My now 17yr old has been diagnosed celiac for 12 years and this was the first place we have found a gf lobster roll. I ordered that for me so she could “sample” it and she ate half of it…bah! She also had the shrimp citrus salad and had the Tahitian cheesecake for dessert. They also had a gf brownie sundae option. Lots of options, food and atmosphere were great. And most importantly, no reaction.

Be sure to tell them you can’t have cross contamination...my friends son is allergic to dairy...twice they made his burger with cheese, then peeled the cheese off and flipped the burger over and tried to re-serve it. Um...no.
come here quite often, but been disappointed during quarantine... they have an updated menu however nothing is marked gluten free, so you just have to ask if they can make it GF. Also they have a limited menu currently which offers way less gluten free options.

I've had very good luck here. I was a little skeptical while reading other reviews on here. They do have a separate menu which is great. I got the Old Salt Chicken. I've had it multiple times and never gotten sick. I tend to avoid breads and pastas at any place even if it is GF to avoid the risk of contamination. Stick the basics here and you won't get sick! The staff are very friend and accommodating!

Went here with my husband and 6yr old and 9 yr old (both boys have celiac). The atmosphere was cool. The gf menu was not bad!
We ordered:
Gf baked chicken wings ($10)
Gf penne pasta with sauce ($11)
Gf clam bake ($32) about 2-3 dozen clams and a lobster... my 9 yr old ordered that!!
Then a couple items off the reg menu. And 3 sodas. The total was $100.
Neither boy had a reaction.

I called before going here and they told me they had a lot of gluten free options and I specifically asked if they had gluten free pasta and they told me yes. When I got there and saw the gluten free menu there were only 4 options that weren't seafood. Very disappointed. Did end up getting the chicken with veggies and alfredo sauce. Meal was pretty good and didn't get sick after which is a plus.
Loved the atmosphere and gf selection however got sick the first time I ate there while on vacation. Tried again later the same week and was sick immediately after as well.
This was a great restaurant with a wonderful decor. While there was not a lot of variety on the menu, what they offered was delicious. I would eat there again.
carrot cake is awesome!
My family was lead to The Old Salt in search of a gluten free eatery on our way through NH. Service was excellent and the gluten free menu made it easy to order while offering a good list of options. The star of the meal was by far the chocolate cake, we have had many bakers renditions, and have even baked many ourselves, but their chocolate cake was by far the best we had ever had!! We will be back.
