Unfortunately, like most of Hawaii, this restaurant does not understand GF. Avoid.
Me: Do you have any GF options? It’s Celiac.
Them: Yes, no problem. We have lots of options
*They proceed to mark up a menu for me with ~8 options. I usually find this type of confidence to be a great sign.*
Me: Questioning some suspicious inclusions, I ask about several listed items to find they include sauce containing wheat (e.g., soy sauce), deep fry along with breads, etc. and come to understand there’s really only one option - Pho
*I proceed to order Pho…get sick anyway*
P.S.
I travel a ton domestically for work. This was my first time to HI, and Honolulu is one of, if not THE, worst major city in the US for restaurant gluten awareness/ accommodation. I was shocked how bad it was in 2022…like going back 20 years in most other major mainland cities (or 5 years in Dallas…I kid Dallas…kind of). My recommendation…go to Florida, Caribbean, or Mexico…all MUCH easier in my experience.
