I thought I’d share my experience of birthday afternoon tea at ‘The RItz’….
In all honesty, I was disappointed!
We went as a party of 4 and I am the only person with coeliac disease. I emailed before the visit and they were very reassuring.
The staff were amazing and knew about my dietary requirement. Service was great!
However my sandwiches were very cold (refrigerated) and quite hard! I thought the bread was awful!!! I had a plate full of sandwiches but to be honest I’d prefer quality over quantity.
The cakes were nice enough but the chocolate one was stale as half of it was rock solid. ( again it could have been because it was refrigerated and dried out)
The cakes that were served off a trolley weren’t suitable for me and there was no alternative. The little birthday cakes they brought out to numerous people including my table also weren’t gluten free!
I did feel that I had a very different experience to my friends but I paid the same price as them!
In total I paid £112 including a glass of champagne and a service charge. I’ve had much nicer afternoon teas for a lot less at other hotels which were much nicer.
I’d looked forward to visiting the ritz for a very long time and sadly it wasn’t the experience I thought it would be.
