Great tacos. Corn-tortilla only dedicated fryer is very helpful, and the servers are knowledgeable. THE QUESO IS NOT GF
Great food, fun atmosphere. Waitress was really helpful. Almost everything can be accommodated gluten free. We got the chips and queso and tacos.
I had a great dinner here. Lots of GF options to choose from - all the tacos can be done on corn tortillas and the tortilla chips are made in a separate dedicated fryer. My server was knowledgeable about the options and what would be an option for cross contact. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and beans and she double checked to make sure the soy sauce used in the marinade was GF.
This was a fun and delicious meal! I had two tacos, one with chicken and the second with shrimp. The shrimp one was better, but both were good. I also had the mango rice and black beans, and particularly enjoyed the rice. I was told the rum in the drinks was also gluten free, but did not try it.
I had a great meal here! I got the jerk chicken and it came with coconut mango rice and beans. It was delicious! The server was knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. I will say my plate came with plantains and for some reason I did not touch them. I am glad I didn’t because I think they were fried and they do not have separate friers. I did not get sick.
GLUTEN FREE REVIEW
Highly recommend The Rum House as a celiac!
Online menu has notations for items without gluten and those that can be made gluten free, but not all items are marked that are actually gf.
They do not have a separate menu nor are the gf items marked on their actual menu in store, but the waiters are trained on allergies & were very have to accommodate.
Brandon was our waiter and he was excellent! Guaranteeing me that even if he missed something on telling me what was gf that the kitchen would catch it since I let them know I have an allergy.
We ordered the nacho appetizer for the table. The largest appetizer ever and overall the nachos were very tasty. The thin, crispy chips!!
I ordered the Flaked Fish taco & Chipotle Shrimp taco along with coconut mango rice & black beans.
Flaked fish: blackened mahi is spicy!!
Chipotle shrimp: very good!
Black beans & rice: both very different, but very good!
All members of our party said they would return!
*All fried items are in the same grease, so no fries from here.
Many of the taco toppings have dairy so I just subbed dairy free toppings. The brisket and mahi mahi were good.
AMAZING tacos, waitress knew exactly was could be cross contaminated and what couldn’t, told chef about my allergy. could have eaten 10 tacos
Ate here again on my visited. Had the nachos this time and are very good. As usual great food and staff is very knowledgeable of gluten free and are very careful not to cross contaminate. I was told today they are getting new gluten free menus in a couple of weeks. Will be eating here on my next trip here to New Orleans.
The staff was very good in helping and also double checked to make sure what I wanted to orders was gluten free. I have the nachos. They were delicious!
We really enjoyed this fun restaurant! The waitress was awesome and super helpful. Most everything on the menu is gf unless it’s fried. Tacos are on corn tortillas. My daughter’s favorite was the brisket. It was nice to enjoy chips and guac as a family for a change!
Delicious food + gluten free items marked on online menu! The food here is great and there are a lot of diverse gluten free options. Our server was very knowledgeable about GF items and helpful in selecting choices.
The entire menu outside of sandwiches and fried items are gluten free. Chips made offsite to prevent cross contamination. Would eat here everyday!
My waitress was SUPER helpful, her brother has an intolerance, so she went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure I could have a margarita, by checking the mixer, realizing it had gluten, and had the bartender make me one FRESH, just muddled to avoid cross contact with the blender.
Rum House was DELICIOUS. There were a TON of gluten free options for me to try, that I had to sample a little bit of everything. I had two tacos, both were DIVINE - my favorite was the BBQ taco, along with coconut mango rice, which was so sweet it could have been a dessert, and the BEST salad ever - it had sweet potatoes, pecans, and a super yummy dressing. I felt AMAZING after eating here, NO GI issues what so ever. HIGHLY SUGGEST
Gluten free options identified on the menu. I had three tacos: brisket (skip it), calypso beef, and duck duck goose (hands down the best!), and a side of black beans. The server was helpful and explained the minor modifications they would make for me. The cocktails are good too!
The tacos were amazing. Make sure you tell the server about your situation and to get corn tortillas!
I read mixed reviews regarding the tortilla chips (menu says they are fried) so I asked the waitress why they were considered gf but not the fried plaintains. She went to the back to ask and informed me the chips were fried in separate oil, whereas the plaintains were fried with all other food.
With that being said, I ordered the avacado mango dip. I had no issues. Will be back fo sho.
Great option! Had two tacos with no issues. I would highly recommend that you avoid any of the fried stuff like other reviewers stated and you should be safe. I did not eat the chips and salsa for fear of the cross contamination. Even though they said they were baked. I would go back.... and did on our last day!
Good food but I have felt so sick after every time eating here! A lot of cross contamination
The Rum House was delicious! We started with the Chorizo and Pepper Queso with tortilla chips that was full of flavor! My GF husband ordered the duck duck goose tacos (made with corn tortilla by request) with a side of black beans and I had a 3 taco combo of the duck duck goose taco, the fried oyster taco, and the chipotle shrimp taco also with black beans. Our meals were DELICIOUS!! The menu marked all of the items that could be made GF which was a large majority. The sides were also divided into two groups, GF and nonGF. We both would highly recommend going here and asking for Jonathen! He was great!
Yumm! Great food and drinks! Beware of fried foods- no dedicated gf fryer. Servers are generally aware. This place gets crazy busy FYI.
Gluten free options are noted on the regular menu. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The hostess explained the menu and said that almost everything could be modified to be gluten free, and to just ask the server. Server was helpful with recommendations and didn’t just try to get us to get more expensive things. I had chips and queso, Duck Duck Goose taco, and Cuban something taco (don’t remember the name), with smothered greens and plantains. Plantains weren’t in a dedicated fryer which the server explained up front, but I didn’t have any reactions. Definitely will be returning here.
The menu is excellent for ciliacs. The staff understands gluten issues, and there are more gluten free options than any NOLA restaurant that I have visited over the last 4 trips to NOLA. The food is outstanding.
Amazing! So many options and our server was very knowledgeable. Best meal I had in NOLA. Really good drinks too.
Great food. the staff was familiar with Celiac. I did not get sick.
Loved this place! Many gluten free taco selections. Also the polenta and jalapeño coleslaw are amazing! I stay away from anything fried, including the chips, because I was told there is no dedicated fryer or separate oil.
Great food, knowledgable waitstaff. Menu is not labeled properly as there is no dedicated fryer and some items are fried yet labeled gf. Thank the waitstaff for pointing this out. No soap in bathroom.
I am conflicted on how to write this review because we have been here several times and the food is delicious. There is a nice variety of interesting tacos on corn tortillas as well as a variety of side dishes. My kids love the chips with queso which they have not had since being diagnosed. My primary concern is the inclusion of fried foods on the list of gluten free sides as there is not a dedicated fryer. For those concerned with cross contamination, this excludes the plantains, fries, and the crispy duck pieces that might be on your duck taco. Though we have had some wonderful well meaning servers, it took a bit of effort on the last visit and a talk with the manager to conclude that some items listed as GF are not safe. They seem to have a handle on the other GF options listed. So as always, if you have Celiac disease, be persistent with your questions....but enjoy because the portions are large and the food is great!
The tacos were amazing! So is the queso blanco dip. Prices are great!
