Great selection of gluten-free options (starters and mains), including traditional fish&chips. Very friendly and helpful staff. Cozy downstairs bars area (if you want a relaxed meal) and historic dining room upstairs. Menu full of traditional British pub dishes, but all home-made and cooked fresh. I had the GFO of their burger and it was delicious. Famous for its local beers and ales too (not for coeliacs obviously, but your friends) and good selection of wines by the glass. Slightly away from the centre and tourists attractions too and it’s thus got a nice local atmosphere with regulars and local people frequenting. Good value for money too!
A fantastic place to eat. So many GF options - the starters in particular were fab I can’t remember the last time I ate Chinese pork belly but starter at the Salamander was incredible. Also shared the breaded chicken and the croquet - both very tasty and a rarity as a Coeliac.
INCREDIBLE. Went for a short day trip and was worried of not finding a place to eat… that said the chef was incredible and kept updating me on the cooking. Careful if you are celiac, gluten free beer is used for the fish and still has barley in it. Which as a celiac I am very sensitive to. Talking with them they made me feel safe. Since the frier had been compromised they made me chips in a pan & seared haddock. Cleaning all the utensils and cutting boards. My BEST CELIAC food experience. One of the only times I have not felt like a burden. Would highly recommend. Very communicative!!!
Went here for an evening meal and OH MY LIFE the best food ever!!! Only 2 things on the menu actually contained gluten and as soon as I told Gareth about my allergy he said we have separate friers and flour etc etc… and the food was just YUM. I had pork belly and SFC. 10/10 delicious and the service was 10/10 too
Ate here as part of a Rick Steve's tour and had a traditional English roast beef dinner which was very good. Dinner was served family style for the group, but they brought my plate separately to ensure no cross contamination.
Separate fryer for GF

Ate here again another night and had the fried chicken which was like chicken fingers. They also have GF options for fish & chips and a seafood chowder.
Lovely place! Everything besides the sausage roll is already gf or can be made gf (all of it is marked gf or gfo, gluten free option, on the menu). Talked to the staff and they said that everything is separate in the kitchen if you’re gluten free, including fryers and cooking spaces so just mention it!
Had the Salamander Fried Chicken and fries/chips and absolutely loved it. It’s rare that I can have fried chicken outside of Korean Fried Chicken, so this was awesome. They also have gluten free beer!
I am shocked this doesn’t have more reviews so I HAVE to leave one!
Our experience here was wonderful. This is a fun little pub with a great atmosphere, extremely kind staff, and great gf options.
Almost their entire menu is naturally gluten free or has a gluten free option. So when I arrived, I ask for their procedures.
They have a separate fryer for all gluten free things and the only thing they really can’t make gluten free is the sausage roll appetizer. They use cider for the batter on the fish (instead of beer batter of course) and many of the options they only have as a gluten free option (makes it easier for us right?!)
So I ordered fish and chips. And when I tell you they may be the best gf fish and chips I’ve had, it is no joke! The fish was fresh & crispy and the fries were wonderful.
I finished it off with a sticky toffee pudding, completely gluten free and OH MY GOSH- if you get a dessert, please do yourself a favor and get this. I swear I wish I could have this on a daily basis! Lol
My non-gf husband had a wonderful meal of his own fish and chips with affogato as a dessert. We were both incredibly happy and had a wonderful experience. I know I will absolutely come back here whenever I am in Bath and I hope everyone reading this gives it a try!
Lovely old pub, great choice of beers and wines, including some bottled gf pale ale.
Wonderful choice of food - most main courses were or could be made gluten free. Desserts - also choice of several, one of course being brownie and ice cream. I can highly recommend the lemon posset with light very tasty shortbread.
Jai was serving at the bar and bringing food to the table, delightful and very careful about ensuring everything was definitely gluten free.
For those like myself with accessibility needs also, this building would not be great, unless you’re ambulatory and have a helper to bring the wheelchair/ mob scooter in. One step at entrance then another into the bar area, toilets are upstairs only.
Such a cozy little pub- and had a delicious burger on a gluten free bun!
