One of my go-to place for eating out, and one of the only restaurants I feel relatively safe eating. They have yummy GF chips that you can request - the regular tortilla chips are NOT safe. Make sure you mention "allergy," I have mentioned Celiac and the wait staff aren't all educated as to what that means. I have had excellent luck with the Street Tacos with corn tortillas, I've never been glutened by them. The fajitas with corn tortillas are also a good bet. Other items are a bit more risky. I have been glutened by the iguana cheese dip and enchiladas, even after substitutions to make it safe.

This was a favorite of our family but after getting sick twice I won't be going back. I always take my own chips because I'm allergic to ingredients in their GF chips. They rarely write down allergies when taking our order. The wait staff that helped us several times acted as though my alerting them to my allergies was just passing on random information. I called and the manager reassured me that the black beans and rice were safe. They clearly as I'm had problems several times and got sick twice. I've heard of other people having issues at Salty.

The gluten free menu had a nice selection, but the food was a big letdown. I got street tacos and all three meats were extremely dry. My husband got a burrito and was not impressed either.

Restaurant was very helpful and had a gluten free menu. Chips were gluten free. many of the items on the menu could be substituted out for gluten free ingredients.

I have tons of allergies including gluten as I have IBS and our waitress was nothing but helpful! When I'm back in the area I'll be back. Only thing is the GF isn't totally updated.

I ordered take out and struggled with the guy on the phone on whether they had a gf menu (I heard they did, I couldn't find it on the website). I ordered what he said were gf offerings and got sick that night. Maybe I would have had better luck going in, but thinking I am staying away.

Beware. Today I ate at the Salty Iguana (this is the 2nd time there that I’ve gotten sick so I will *never* eat there again). Asked the waitress for a GF Menu and then order off of said GF Menu. It specifically says on the GF Menu that you cannot have the enchilada sauce because it contains Flour/Gluten but that you can get enchilada with just cheese. After eating 1 of the enchiladas, I see what looks like Enchilada Sauce on the plate where the enchilada had been on top of. I call her over and ask if that’s Enchilada Sauce and she says she’s not sure and will go ask the Kitchen. Comes back and says she asked the Cooks and yes it’s Enchilada Sauce but “They said they only use a small amount to hold the filling together.” 🙄🙄🙄They use a small amount. Knowing it contains an allergen. You’re kidding me right now. Manager comes over and gets my contact info in the event this turns into me having to be seen/get IV Meds or Fluids. It’s just a frustrating situation. I can understand not being super familiar with Gluten Free, I get that, but to ***knowingly use an ingredient that someone specifies they CANNOT have*** is just unreal. I’m praying my reaction is not as bad as previously. I typically downplay this when I’m ordering because I don’t want to come across as “difficult” but I think I’m going back to spelling it out because this is not fun. Booooooo 🤢😤The Manager and I had a conversation about it and she used an example of when she used to be a vegetarian and how some times eating out she would find meat in her food. I get she was trying to relate but this isn’t even the same and the fact that she thinks it is makes it that much more frustrating. Sigh.

This place is my favorite Mexican place!! They heat up these delicious gluten free chips for you and almost everything can be modified to be gluten free. Although their gluten free menu doesn’t say this, their rice is now gluten free. You can even get burritos and quesadillas with corn tortillas. I definitely recommend the traditional carnitas—phenomenal!! The staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating, would definitely recommend this place.

I was really excited to try this place because I had never been. They have gf options but the food was awful. I got 3 tacos (can’t really go wrong with tacos) and they were the WORST tacos I have ever had. Beef was disgusting and shells were chewy. Will not be going back.

Go to El Potro instead. Their options are better, food is fresh, and super service. Oh, and the quality and taste are way above the Salty.

*** Please write honest reviews so others have up to date information on choices*** Great food, gf blue tortilla chips, good options but I always get the cream cheese burrito with queso added. No rice option. They brought me a flour tortilla once but caught the cooks mistake before they sat it down. overall great.

I had an excellent gluen enchilada, rice and black beans with no issues. My new favorite Mexican restaurant in Lawrence.

Some servers are knowledgeable, others not so much. It's a gamble every time you go in. Food last 3 times we've eaten here is dry- meats and rice both. Not great quality meals for the prices charged.

We recently ate at Salty Iguana for the first time since going GF. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the different options. The chips are NOT cross contaminated. As a matter of fact, our waitress brought out the individual package that the chips came out of. They go from the package to the basket to the table. Not as fresh as their other chips but my daughter didn't complain.

They have a gf menu. Food is good, and service is too. Although I did have a lot of questions one time about certain items and the waitress seemed to be irritated because she didn't know the answers and had to keep going and asking someone else.

Yes, they have gf options but food here was just nasty. Enchilada tasted freezer burned and taco was dry and tasteless. They don't have a dedicated frier, so your chips are these organic whole grain crackers. Service was great (good waitress) but I won't be back for the food.

Let your server know you have Celiac and they will let you know what is and isn't safe and will work with you to make sure that what you order will come with the right substitutions! (Like corn tortilla instead of white flour) LOVE THEIR IGGY DIP! Delicious margs too!

The chip are fried in the same fryer with gluten items. When I asked manager she said, well they are just a little bit 'gluten'. I said, like being a little bit 'pregnant'. Not gluten free.

They have some items I can always rely on safely eating and not worry about getting sick afterwards--something I've had much difficulty with regarding Mexican food, which I really love but can rarely eat at restaurants

Chips are cross contaminated but good options. Waitress didn't seem overly concerned but felt good after eating the food so must not have been contaminated!

Service always questionable. Food now sub-standard as well. One more bad experience and no more. Really gone downhill recently. Why no more shredded beef?
