I love the vibe of this place, and pre-celiac diagnosis, Secret Stash was my favorite pizza! So with all my fond memories of the food being delicious, I decided to risk some cross-contamination. The pizza (and GF crust) and burrata salad was delicious! But, my stomach was definitely upset afterwards. If I had stronger symptoms/reactions, I would not risk eating here. It was sort of stressful! The menu warning says something like, “heck, there’s gluten in the air here!” and that is almost certainly an accurate disclosure. Not sure if I’ll risk it again.
The pizza was good but it did unfortunately make me very sick. My sister is gluten free as well and didn’t have any trouble so I guess it depends on your sensitivity.
Waitress very knowledgeable. She thoroughly explained the kitchen used clean pans, new tools and a separate area to mix. Common oven. We loved the pizza. Crust was pretty standard for GF. Toppings amazing 😍. Great salad too. Had multiple town locals with celiac family members recommend restaurant. Told us to be very specific when ordering. Everything went well.
Secret Stash clearly states at the bottom of their menu that their gluten free crust is really just “gluten reduced” as there is so much flour in the kitchen and prep area that there is no way for it to be safe for those who are sensitive. I personally brought a thermos of pasta and some toasted bread from home and they didn’t mind.
This is the first pizza place I have gone to since being diagnosed with celiac almost 2 years ago. We are on vacation from Wisconsin and I am heavily relying on this app to find places to eat and I was so happy to find this place. The gluten free pizza was fantastic! The staff was amazing, and they made sure to check to make sure certain sauces we gluten free. I’ve had no issues after eating the pizza, and if we ever come back to Crested Butte I will definitely be eating here again.
Holy Crusty Butts this place is AMAZING! I got the notorious fig with their DF cheese and it was HEAVEN! The cheese wasn’t rubbery and gross like most dairy free cheese is. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and made sure I was safe! I have a severe reaction to gluten and I didn’t get sick one bit! (Celiac and lactose intolerant). Highly recommend this place.
Ordered the GF crust Fig pizza. This was quite possibly the worst GF pizza crust I have had in the 3.5 months since I was diagnosed. Granted, I am a pizza snob from Chicago. But this was ... not good. The interior is chewy in a bad way. The edges are rock hard.
Sadly I had such high hopes based on previous reviews. Figured it would be hard to find good GF food in ski towns. I wasn’t wrong.
(If you’re looking for a better option while your friends/family eat what is likely delicious non-GF pizza, Ryce Asian Bistro was amazing. Huge portions, very accommodating, and I did not get sick!)
After reading some of the reviews, I was a little concerned about trying Secret Stash pizza with my son. So I called and got some good info about how they bake their pizzas (see below). The pizza here is Delicious and the staff was very knowledgeable about Celiac. If they didn’t have an answer to my questions, they asked someone who knew. They have GF crust that they do not prepare in house so risk of cross contamination is less. They use clean gloves to make the pizza. They bake each pizza on its own pan. Pizzas are all cooked in the same oven, however. Their menu says Gluten reduced ( not gluten free) bc of course there is flour in the air. My son is Celiac and sensitive to any gluten and he did not get sick. He Loved his GF pizza. We also ate salad from the salad bar (sounds crazy at first) but I talked to our server about it and then we checked out the salad bar. The croutons were separate from everything else. The dressings are Gf. The ranch is in a pump so risk of x contamination is less. My son had a salad and was fine. We would highly recommend this restaurant for both Celiac and non Celiac people bc the food is So good!
Excellent Pizza. I usually order the Notorious Fig (prosciutto, Mozzarella, Blue Cheese, Figs, and finished with Truffle Oil).
