While the options are extremely limited the wait staff was wonderful in dealing with my daughter’s celiacs. The only real options are the steamed shrimp and changing the tacos to lettuce wraps but they took our issues seriously and were more than willing to try to make another menu item work for my daughter. After going to so many restaurants that don’t understand or care this is a big deal to me.

NOT celiac friendly. Only option is lettuce wrap tacos. Everything else is not an option.

Celiac friendly?

No

The staff was knowledgeable about gf and double checked on items they weren’t sure about. Not many gf options though. We had 5 gf people in our group, 1 who is celiac, and everyone felt ok after. However, they were out of almost everything we requested. No ceviche, no coconut for painkillers, no ribs, no bacon for bacon burgers. The 13.99 burger looked more like a slider. 🙁 Maybe we should have brought our own ingredients?

The Shanty is a must when in Cape Charles - especially for seafood lovers. Gluten free options are clearly called out out menu. Staff are friendly, attentive and patient with my many questions. Food is fresh and delicious. Plenty of gf drink options. Very kid friendly. Best of all - great outdoor space and an amazing view! Go during sunset. It’s gorgeous!
