The Sit Down is one of my favorite places to eat, especially with the sidewalk dining. Jasmine is always friendly. Unfortunately, the things that I order, the pizza and the jambalaya, always leave me with some contamination pain. If you are not as sensitive as me, it's a great place for reliable food. Also, for a Celiac to have a selection of gluten-free desserts at a restaurant is almost like surreal.
5 hearts for safety and 0 stars for the quality of the food. Looking at the other reviews I don’t know if my experience is the outlier- I’m easily pleased if the food is GF and this was just terrible quality. The soup had a huge chicken bone with skin and cartilage on it, the chicken club was a spongy dethawed chicken cutlet that tasted like metal with chopped bits of bacon and cheddar cheese, no lettuce. Bread was crazy stale. I don’t want to write a bad review for a place that has good safety precautions but I feel like I was really led astray by these reviews!
We had a great experience here. Waiter told us the owner is celiac, so they know what they are talking about.
GF menu with lots of options. We skipped the pizza (they have a separate rack, but goes in oven with gluten pizzas). Have a separate prep area for GF food. My daughter had steak sandwich on GF bread with kettle chips. Great meal felt very safe.
Ordered a second meal a day later to take with us to the airport.
I have celiac disease but don't get GI symptoms. I had a great experience at this restaurant. The waitress was familiar with the kitchen's precautions for preparing things gluten free without cross contamination. The waitress all made sure to get me gf soy sauce without me even having to ask. And I enjoyed the food too!
My girlfriend got a GF chicken pesto (from fresh picked basil!). I shared a Philly roll with her, they had GF soy sauce. They are aware of the imitation crab and exclude California rolls from the GF dedicated menu for this reason. Server was very attentive and knowledgeable. They have fresh fish on display (and it doesn't smell like fish, so it's good!) Owner came and checked on us even. Great experience!
I ordered a pizza off of their GF menu. Asked for fresh/uncontaminated toppings for my pizza and they were more than willing to accommodate. Very friendly and understanding staff. My pizza was SO good, I got nervous halfway through that it wasn’t gf crust because it tasted so good. I had no issues after eating here.
I am visiting my son in Chicago and found Sit Down Cafe through this app. There were many good reviews so I ordered a pizza. It was the best GF pizza that I’ve ever had. There are also GF dessert options. I tried the cheesecake and it was delicious. I will definitely return whenever visiting Chicago.
Where to begin? Is Very kid and family friendly. They have a real baby changing table, not a plastic thing on the wall. So many gf options. Sushi (a little pricey) uses radishes cut to look like noodles (very tasty) instead of rice. The most amazing salads with quality ingredients. Grilled sandwiches with Udis bead and wonderful combinations with the freshest ingredients (around $9.50) fresh berries available as a side. Large portion of soups for the price $4.75. Best coffee my husband had all weekend. Oh and a very good selections of GF desserts. Marjolaine cake was so delicious! only $5!! The owner is a celiac so they are extra careful here. We're from California, but when anywhere in the vacinity, we'll be back. Highly recommend checking it out!
Wonderful food! I had a chicken and pesto sandwich with veggie chips. Prosciutto rolls were also great! Gluten-free menu.
Wonderful place, great tasting food, and a truly gluten free establishment that caters to people with gluten allergies and celiac disease. They even have 2 separate kitchens!
