Good and interesting food, gluten free friendly. Like most Michelin starred places they accommodate any and all allergies (mine are not exclusive to wheat), though not to the level I had hoped. One such exception is the bread— while a lot of restaurants feature gluten free bread options, this one does not appear to have any, from the typical pre-meal rolls to the pain perdu accompanying the main dish.
Indeed, that separates The Village Pub from something like The Plumed Horse. Where Plumed Horse substitutes allergens with something the diner can eat, VP simply removes them. While this inevitably leads to a different experience than the dish intended, it didn’t negatively impact the flavor. A gluten friendly companion actively preferred the duck sans bread. Still somewhat dampening that they don’t accommodate quite as well.
On the other hand, there was a phenomenal gluten free soufflé. I haven’t seen gluten free soufflé before and it was excellent.
Service is worse than it used to be and somewhat vacant, though the actual waiter himself was great. I had a rocky start to this visit though, my table wasn’t ready and we stood outside for nearly ten minutes. Better than inside the absurdly packed and loud entrance though.
